When it was reported on Thursday that contract talks between the New York Jets and star safety Jamal Adams had reached a stalemate, the rumblings once again began about wether or not the Cowboys would re-engage in trade talks for him as they did in 2019.
After a suggestion from a New York area reporter brought him up, the name of wide receiver Michael Gallup as a possible trade asset to acquire Adams circulated, but it might be less distance to the possibility than the legs of social media are giving it.
According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports’, the Cowboys couldn’t have had any discussions about dealing Gallup to the Jets because the two sides haven’t spoken since last year’s trade deadline in October.
Gallup is coming off of this best season of his career. His 66 receptions for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns doubled his production from his rookie season, all while playing alongside Amari Cooper who went over 1,100 yards himself. Now, with Cooper and first-round sensation CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys have two receivers who can play on the outside as well as in the slot. That will allow Gallup to be in a lot of one-on-one situations and give him a great opportunity to improve on his numbers from Year 2.
The Cowboys top-ranked offense from a year ago has the potential to be even better in 2020 with the three-headed monster at receiver they’ll put on the field every week. Lamb may be the shiny new toy, but Gallup’s constant progression, value, and chemistry with Dak Prescott can’t be understated.
