Commanders’ Sam Howell praises Giants defense

Washington Commanders QB Sam Howell praises the New York Giants and Wink Martindale, saying it’s hard to prepare for their varying looks.

This Sunday, the New York Giants face the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland — their second and final meeting of the year.

The Giants won their first matchup against the Commanders in Week 7, 14-7, which was just their second win of the season. Now at 2-8, an undrafted free agent rookie under center, shoddy play calling and mismanagement of personnel, the Giants are struggling.

The league has obviously taken notice, but so have other players.

Washington quarterback Sam Howell recently discussed how the last meeting between the teams was disappointing for the Commanders.

“We didn’t play well offensively and there’s a lot of things we could have done a better job of but we’re excited,” he said. “We got another opportunity to go against them. They (have) a good defense, and they do a lot of really good stuff on the defensive side of the ball. They mix up the looks and every single game they’re doing different looks and stuff, so it makes it harder to prepare.”

The defense certainly has been a bright spot for the Giants this season — if there is one. Kayvon Thibodeaux is ninth in the league in sacks, Dexter Lawrence is always an animal, and edge rusher Azeez Ojulari is back in action.

If the Giants have any hope of winning on Sunday, Wink Martindale will have to keep Howell guessing and, ideally, force a turnover or two (or three).
