Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell is the new kid on the block regarding starters in the NFL.
He’s only had three in his career, two of which have come in Washington’s first outings of 2023.
Some debate whether or not wins is a quarterback stat. Regardless, you can’t take them away from him. He’s 2-0 through the start of the season.
Potentially a player that’s starting to garner some attention, Howell still sees Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen as someone that’s amongst the best of the best in the league.
“Josh is a tremendous player,” Howell said via video conference. “One of the guys that’s probably the more fun to watch in the NFL, and it’s been so much fun to watch him do what he’s been doing in Buffalo. It’ll be an exciting opportunity for me to go head-to-head with him. I don’t know Josh personally but looking forward to the opportunity to maybe talk to him after the game or something. A lot of respect for his game and just how he plays the game.”
In general, despite being 2-0, the Commanders are ready to measure themselves against the Bills.
“They’re one of the elite teams in the AFC. I know they’re 1-1, but records don’t mean anything in this situation. This is one of the elite teams coming in and we’ve got to gear up,” Washington head coach Ron Rivera said. “A great opportunity to see where we stand.”
Similar to the Commanders, the Bills must not take the their opponent lightly. Buffalo might have done something similar in their opener against the New York Jets when Aaron Rodgers was injured very early in the game.
That could be why the Commanders have a better record heading into Sunday.
