Colts work out two long snappers, including Matt Overton

Matt Overton got a workout in with the Colts.

A day after holding a tryout for three running backs and kicker Matt Gay, who was signed to the practice squad, the Indianapolis Colts held a workout for a pair of long snappers, per the league’s transaction wire. This included former Colt Matt Overton.

It isn’t clear why the Colts held a workout for the long snappers. Maybe they have a plan to make a change from current starter Luke Rhodes. They could also simply be keeping an eye on the market.

Overton, 35, played for the Colts for five seasons (2012-2016). He was released following the 2017 NFL Draft as one of Chris Ballard’s first surprise moves of his tenure.

Overton had an off-and-on stint with the Jaguars from 2017–2018 after his release from the Colts. He had a three-day stint with the Chargers in 2019 as well.

The other long snapper at the workout was Taybor Pepper. The 26-year-old played four games with the Packers in 2018 and a full 16 games with the Dolphins in 2019.

Maybe the Colts are just keeping an eye on the market. Maybe a move is on the way. Regardless, the Colts held a tryout for a pair of long snappers on Tuesday.
