The Indianapolis Colts waived cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr. and defensive end Rashod Berry after both players were suspended for violating the NFL’s gambling policy, the team announced Thursday.
General manager Chris Ballard made the following statement as a part of the transaction:
“We have made the following roster moves as a consequence of the determination that these players violated the league’s gambling policy. The integrity of the game is of the utmost importance. As an organization we will continue to educate our players, coaches, and staff on the policies in place and the significant consequences that may occur with violations.”
Both Rodgers and Berry are suspended indefinitely for at least the 2023 season and are eligible to apply for reinstatement following the conclusion of the season.
However, it’s clear the Colts wanted to make an example of what the consequences are for gambling, which has become a growing issue across the league.
Whether the players’ release is warranted or not, the Colts will be moving forward without a promising young cornerback.
