Indianapolis Colts rookie defensive end Kwity Paye suffered an ankle sprain during Wednesday’s training camp practice at the Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield.

The first-round pick was able to walk off the field under his own power so there’s a chance this remains a relatively minor injury, but the Colts are still waiting on the severity of the injury.

Paye has been flashing incredible progression and is likely headed for a starting role as long as this injury doesn’t hold him out too long. Because of the injury and the Colts wanting to be cautious, there is a chance he misses the joint training camp practice with the Carolina Panthers and the preseason opener.

That’s speculation at this point until we know the severity of the injury, but it’s something to monitor.

The Colts have been hit pretty badly by the injury bug during training camp. The team practiced without its entire starting offensive line on Wednesday, with four of the players missing practice because of an ailment.

Replacing Paye on the edge of the defensive line is likely to be Kemoko Turay and Ben Banogu, who will play opposite Tyquan Lewis.
