Colts’ Jacoby Brissett ranked 27th in NFL.com QB Index

Jacoby Brissett’s 2019 season came up short.

Before the offseason begins, the Indianapolis Colts have been evaluating every snap that was taken during the 2019 season. A close eye will be on quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who enters the final year of his current contract.

Not only have the Colts been watching every snap, but NFL.com’s Ali Bhanpuri, Tom Blair, Gennaro Filice and Dan Parr also did so as well to create their “QB Index” rankings from the 2019 campaign.

When it came to Brissett, the 27-year-old quarterback was ranked 27th in the NFL according to the index.

Individual Rank: Bhanpuri: 27 | Blair: 26 | Filice: 28 | Parr: 27

2019 regular season stats: 15 games | 60.9 pct | 2,942 pass yds | 6.6 ypa | 18 pass TD | 6 INT | 228 rush yds | 4 rush TD | 5 fumbles lost

Bhanpuri: Thrust into the starting role just before the season after Andrew Luck’s world-rocking retirement, Brissett acquitted himself well as the Colts’ new QB1. He is not nearly as dynamic as his predecessor, and he has a ceiling closer to high-end game manager than elite game changer, but I thought he was more than capable of taking the Colts to the playoffs before he sustained an MCL sprain in Week 9. He was clearly a different QB upon his return, with his mobility, accuracy and overall play falling off a cliff.

Brissett’s second-half collapse is something that sticks in the mind of the fanbase and those who paid attention to the team. Over his final eight games played (not including the Pittsburgh game), Brissett threw just four touchdown passes and his completion percentage rested at a dismal 56.8%.

Some of that is due to the knee injury he suffered. Some of it is due to the lack of weapons around him. Some of it is due to his limitations as a passer and apparent lack of desire to look more downfield. All things are true for his 2019 season.

It still isn’t totally clear if the Colts are going to add a quarterback this offseason, but Brissett has plenty of improvements to make if he is going to be under center in 2020.
