Colts free agent QB Jacoby Brissett to sign with Dolphins

Brissett is heading to South Beach.

Indianapolis Colts free agent quarterback Jacoby Brissett is signing a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

With Carson Wentz the new quarterback and expected to be announced as such on Wednesday, it was anticipated that Brissett would be waking in free agency.

Now, he goes to the Dolphins to be the backup for second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

The Colts initially traded for Brissett in 2017 when Andrew Luck was struggling to return from shoulder surgery. He wound up starting 15 games as the Colts went 4-12 with a depleted roster.

Luck returned in 2018 to have a phenomenal season only to retire just before the 2019 season, and the Colts made Brissett a starter yet again while also signing him to a two-year extension. It didn’t go as well as planned when Brissett had a rough second half that included four touchdown passes over the last eight games.

After the Colts signed Philip Rivers, Brissett was once again a backup. The Colts would use Brissett on third and short plays but he rarely saw time as a passer.

Brissett was one of the leaders in the locker room and a major factor in the community but now he will bring those traits down to South Beach.
