Colts’ Chris Ballard, Frank Reich give statements on Matt Ryan

Here’s what Chris Ballard and Frank Reich said in a statement about trading for Matt Ryan.

The Indianapolis Colts officially traded a third-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons for quarterback Matt Ryan on Monday.

With the trade going through at 4:00 p.m. ET, both general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Frank Reich gave statements on their new quarterback entering the remainder of the offseason.

“We’re thrilled we had a chance to acquire a proven veteran in Matt Ryan who brings tremendous experience to our team,” said Ballard. “Matt’s leadership and skillset will complement our roster’s growth and success. He’s long been a great ambassador for the NFL and the Atlanta Falcons, and we’re excited he can continue his accomplished career in Indianapolis.”

Ballard was the one who eventually pulled the trigger on trading away Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders. He wound up getting two third-round picks while moving up in the second round of the 2022 draft.

As for Reich, he will get a quarterback that works more similarly to Philip Rivers and even though he stuck his neck out for Wentz in 2021, the offense will be better off with Ryan under center.

“I’ve long admired Matt for his steady, methodical approach to the game,” Reich. “He is one of the most productive quarterbacks in the league and has spearheaded numerous fourth quarter game-winning drives. Matt will be a fantastic representative for our organization, and I’m excited to get to work with him and the rest of the team this offseason.”

We are likely to hear from Ryan at some point this week when the Colts introduce their new quarterback.
