Season Review
The Colts made it clear during the offseason that Mack was their guy and that they were going to treat him as such. There were no lies there as Mack was essentially a one-man wrecking crew when it came to carries out of the backfield.
What made Mack’s season even better was the fact that he took a much bigger workload, achieved several career-highs and did so without recording one fumble throughout the entire campaign. It’s not that he didn’t lose a fumble. He never let the ball touch the ground.
Mack did lose two games to a broken hand but returned quickly during the middle of the season. He has yet to play a full 16 game season despite his success over the last two campaigns.
Offseason Outlook
While the Colts have several areas to address, the running back position isn’t one of them. Mack is firmly entrenched as the starter for 2020. There is the question of a potential extension, though. Mack is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is in line for a nice upgrade in salary.
Conclusion
Mack’s 2019 season was a bright spot for the Colts. He proved he can handle a full workload as a borderline three-down back and produced at a near Pro Bowl level. Had he not missed two games, he would have very well been in the discussion.
