The New York Giants went into Seattle to face the 8-3 Seahawks in a game that they were not given much of chance of winning. The main reason being starting quarterback Daniel Jones would miss the tilt with a hamstring strain.

The Giants went with backup quarterback Colt McCoy, the 10-year veteran who had started just eight games since 2012. McCoy executed a scaled down version of the offensive playbook that Jones would usually get, sticking to a short passing game and leaning heavily on his running game.

The result was a Giant 17-12 victory and McCoy is being credited with doing a fine job in managing the offense and not losing the game. By admission, he had a lot of help.

“I am just so proud to be part of this team,” McCoy said after the game in which he passed foe just 105 yards on 13-of-22 passing. “We had zero points at halftime and the defense was playing lights-out and we rallied together and they helped me out, they calmed me down. I felt like I played a little better as the game went on. I was seeing a lot of things early. They pressured a lot and I wasn’t confused on a whole lot of looks, I just was kind of seeing it too quick. I just needed to calm down, take a breath and once we started to run the football, I felt a lot better.”

McCoy is under no illusions about his role on this club. He knows Jones is very likely to back under center when the Giants host the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday at MetLife Stadium. McCoy credited Jones with helping him prepare for the game last week.

“Daniel Jones is a great quarterback. He’s the leader of this football team,” said McCoy. “He didn’t miss a beat in meetings. He knew wasn’t going to play and from the things he helped me with on the sidelines and during the week. . . we have great relationship.”

“The Giants are lucky to have him,” added McCoy.
