The Colorado Buffaloes are hunting for their future at the tight end position, as the majority of their efforts for an answer during head coach Deion Sanders’ tenure have been futile.
On Monday, Zach Atkins, a tight end who entered the transfer portal after three years with the Division II Northwest Missouri State Bearcats, announced an offer from the Buffs. Atkins has logged about 20 Football Bowl Subdivision offers since entering the portal on Nov. 19. The LSU Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels and South Carolina Gamecocks are among his top-flight suitors.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound offensive asset redshirted with the Bearcats in 2022 before reeling in 12 catches for 181 yards in 2023. This past season, Atkins recorded 18 catches for 179 and three touchdowns.
Colorado’s 2025 recruiting class features two three-star tight end commits in Zayne DeSouza and Corbin Laisure. Current Colorado tight end Sav’ell Smalls caught eight passes for 66 yards during the regular season, although blocking was his primary calling.
