Colorado great Chad Brown says hype will ‘fade’ if the Buffs don’t become bowl-eligible

Colorado great Chad Brown believes that the hype around the Buffs will “fade” if they don’t become bowl-eligible

The buzz around the Colorado Buffaloes football program has subsided a little bit as they’ve lost three of their last four games, including a bad loss to Stanford at Folsom Field. Now, they have a hard road ahead in trying to win two of their final five games to become bowl-eligible.

Former Colorado linebacker Chad Brown had some thoughts on how quickly the hype around the Buffaloes could “fade” if they don’t reach that six-win mark (h/t Sports Seriously via USA TODAY Sports):

“Coach Prime has brought eyeballs and attention everywhere he’s gown as an athlete, and now he’s doing it as a coach for the Colorado Buffaloes” Brown said. “The TV numbers, the ‘Big Noon Kickoff,’ ‘College GameDay’ from ESPN… It’s been a really fun ride. But to your point, they gotta put some Ws behind this thing to keep this momentum going. The attention to the program, the eyeballs that have come Colorado’s way, that will all fade if the Buffaloes (don’t) become bowl-eligible this year. With our society, we love to hype people up and we love to chop ’em down. For the Buffaloes and Coach Prime, they’ve gotta, like I said, at least get to six wins and become bowl-eligible in order for this thing to keep moving forward.”

The Buffs had a bye week but will now face UCLA this weekend in front of a sold-out crowd. Then, they play Oregon State, Arizona, Washington State and Utah to finish out the regular season.
