Colorado football assistants set to be paid record amount

Colorado assistant coaches are set to be paid a record amount over the next two years

The Colorado Buffaloes hired Deion Sanders in a massive get for the football program. After hiring him, he put together a loaded coaching staff and wiped out essentially everybody that was previously in Boulder.

Former Alabama assistant Charles Kelly came to coach the defense, and former Kent State head coach Sean Lewis joined the program as the team’s offensive coordinator. Other assistants include Tim Brewster (TEs), Gary Harrell (RBs), André Hart (LBs), Nick Williams (DEs), and Kevin Mathis (CBs).

As it turns out, the Buffs are paying their assistants more than $4.5 million for the first time in program history, per Brian Howell of BuffZone:

The Colorado football program will have the largest assistant coach salary pool in its history this season, topping the $4.5 million mark for the first time. Per contract information provided by CU, the 10 full-time football assistants will make a combined $4.59 million this year. Each of the assistants will have a higher salary in 2024, pushing the total to $4.95 million.

When Coach Prime was hired, the program allowed him up to $5 million for assistants, and he nearly got to that point.

If this staff doesn’t pan out, it will be a rough time for Colorado football.
