With the 2023 college football season here with a full slate of games this weekend, the talk around conference realignment is still all the buzz.
Last week, a report stated that the Atlantic Coast Conference was close to adding Stanford, Cal, and SMU in expansion. That was just a few weeks after the conference reportedly came one vote shy of approving expansion. But now the momentum appears to be picking up according to one college football writer.
Pete Thamel took to Twitter to offer an update on where things stand with Cal, Stanford, and SMU as the season is set to begin for every team in the country this weekend. Thamel reported that there is ‘continued momentum’ for the ACC to add the three programs:
Sources: After a weekend of conversations, there’s continued momentum toward the ACC adding Stanford, Cal and SMU. ACC officials are working on gathering the presidents/chancellors on a call, which is expected to take place at some point early this week.

Thamel went on to say that nothing is finalized as of now and everything is “in pencil” but this appears to be moving quickly. Just how quick? That’s really the last question left to be answered.
