Just a season ago the LSU Tigers were coming off perfection. They put together a 15-0 season led by Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Joe Burrow, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and Justin Jefferson among other notable offensive weapons. Last season was not anywhere near where many thought the LSU football team would be. Maybe not challenge for the SEC Championship again but no one thought a .500 season was on the horizon.
Replacing one of the best quarterbacks in LSU’s history is no small feat. The team tried Max Johnson, TJ Finley, and Myles Brennan at quarterback. Going into this season it appears to be Brennan vs Johnson for the role of QB1 in the Tigers offense. They need to figure out their running back situation as well. No Ja’Marr Chase or Terrace Marshall Jr will complicate things on the outside but they have players who can step in.

According to ESPN’s Heather Dinich (requires subscription), Louisiana State is one of the teams to not forget about in regards to the CFP from a Southeastern Conference perspective. At the very top of the SEC, you have annual contenders the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs. Behind them, the outsiders appear to be the Texas A&M Aggies. Then you have the LSU Tigers.
LSU will have two new coordinators and a new quarterback but plenty of talent returning all over the roster. There remains a cloud of uncertainty looming with a major Title IX lawsuit that recently included Ed Orgeron as a defendant. – Dinich
There are plenty of issues for the Tigers to work through but prior to the 2019 season, I don’t think anyone saw perfection coming from that team. If they can get clicking early on, their momentum could carry them back towards the top of the SEC.
