College Football Playoff: Instant Reaction to New Rankings

how in the world can you justify Penn State being eight spots higher?

The answer is that you can’t.

Alabama fell from fifth to twelfth after their loss at Auburn, the lowest they’ve ever been rated since the College Football Playoff rankings first came out in 2014.  It’s odd to see a double-digit number next to Alabama’s name since we’re so used to seeing them in the top-five, but it’s pleasant to see a lack of bias thrown their way positively.

Alabama’s resume is a whole lot of nothing.  That’s not to say they aren’t extremely talented because they are, but they don’t have any wins over ranked teams this season and the committee clearly punished them for that.

With Alabama checking in at number 12 there is a significant chance we’re looking at them not going to a New Year’s Six game, something we haven’t seen from them since the 2010 season that saw them finish their year in the Capital One Bowl where they destroyed Michigan State, 49-7.
