College football news: Urban Meyer done with the grind of coaching

Meyer says he just isn’t about that grind anymore

Seemingly every time there has been a job opening at Notre Dame since Charlie Weis was hired after the 2004 season, someone has linked former Fighting Irish assistant [autotag]Urban Meyer[/autotag] to the job.

The last go-around before Marcus Freeman was promoted those calls weren’t nearly as strong as Meyer had just been fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Now if you are to believe what Meyer himself says, then his days on the sideline with a headset are over.

Considering who is saying it take it with a grain of salt, but here is what Meyer said about any potential to the Columbus Dispatch:

“That book is closed, it’s going to be TV and grandfather”

– Urban Meyer

As much as his act as a holier than thou coach drives me nuts, he was certainly a great one and he’s excellent as an analyst on television.

And with all the baggage that comes with him, despite short-comings in plenty of places for Notre Dame over the years, I’m hardly sad he was never their head football coach despite winning two titles at Florida and one at Ohio State.
