College Football News Preview 2020: Previewing, predicting, and looking ahead to the ULM Warhawks season with what you need to know.

College Football News Preview 2020: ULM Warhawks Keys To The Season

Biggest Key To The ULM Warhawks Offense

Try to keep the offensive balance. It didn’t always translate into wins, but at least the O gave the team a fighting chance – only to have the defense biff it time and again.

The Warhawks managed to come up with 200 yards rushing and receiving in seven games after doing it four times the year before, and they hit the 500 total yard mark five times.

The D isn’t going to be appreciably better – it can’t be any worse – but keep the attack moving, and at least ULM will be in most games again.

Biggest Key To The ULM Warhawks Defense

The run defense can NOT continue to be this bad. It allowed over 200 yards to everyone but Texas State, giving up 253 yards per game and 31 scores overall with three or more in seven games.

It got pushed around by everyone, allowing almost 1,000 more yards than it did in 2018. However, to be fair, the program has had issue against anyone trying to run the ball – the 2016 run defense was even worse and the 2017 version was hardly a brick wall.

Give up 150 rushing yards or fewer, and ULM is 6-1 over the last two seasons.

Key ULM Warhawks Player To A Successful Season

QB Colby Suits, Soph.
Or JUCO transfer Jeremy Hunt. Someone has to replace the main man.

All Caleb Evans did was hit 60% of his passes for 9.520 yards and 58 scores to go along with 2,162 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns.

The 6-3, 242-pound Suits won’t run like Evans did, but he can stretch the field. The receivers are in place to help, and RB Josh Johnson is there to take the pressure off. Now the passing offense that averaged 254 yards per game has to be close to as strong.

Key Game To The ULM Warhawks Season

Louisiana, Nov. 28
Two in a row and five of the last six – ULM has had problems in the rivalry with the Ragin’ Cajuns. Last year it needed a win to get bowl eligible, but a heartbreaking 31-30 loss ruined that.

In 2018, ULM got to six wins, but getting to seven would’ve meant a bowl appearance – it loss to Louisiana 31-28.

The team is good enough to get close, and going bowling for first time since 2012 might just come down to the showdown once again.
