College football fans crushed Notre Dame for losing to unranked Marshall in home opener

This was… BAD.

To say things didn’t go well for Notre Dame in its home opener against Marshall on Saturday would be an understatement.

It seemed like almost nothing was clicking for the Fighting Irish, who have now opened their 2022 season with an 0-2 record after losing to Ohio State in Week 1 and then to Marshall, 26-21, in South Bend on Saturday. Per NBC’s game broadcast, this is only the second time Marshall has taken down a top-10 team, previously knocking off then-No. 6 Kansas State in 2003.

Safe to say the honeymoon period for new Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman is over because now the Fighting Irish are going to have an awfully hard time making it to the College Football Playoff with a bad loss like this on their resume — not to mention two to start the season.

Notre Dame fans, surely, are far from thrilled. But it’s also a fairly polarizing program, so naturally, there were a ton of college football fans out there who were thrilled with the Fighting Irish losing to an unranked team at home.
