Clemson can take down Georgia, and it would make some noise.
Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers have a unique opportunity to make some serious noise in Week 1 of the 2024 college football season.
As most know by now, the Tigers open their season against the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 1 at a neutral site. That neutral site being at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, is not much of a neutral site.
Even with the tough task of a near-road matchup and facing the expected No. 1 ranked team to start the season, Clemson has a real shot to win this. The talent is there, and it is as simple as the Tigers’ offense taking the next step and showing improvement from last season. It’s not an easy task, but it’s possible.
According to 247Sports recent articles ranking the top shocking results that would turn college football’s 2024 season upside down, Clemson taking down Georgia landed in the No. 1 spot.
Take everything you thought you know about the ACC title race and Georgia’s reign as No. 1 and toss those thoughts in the garbage if the Tigers beat the Bulldogs in Atlanta. The entire narrative around Dabo Swinney and his program would change and in the same breath, would put Kirby Smart and Georgia against the proverbial wall with several spotlight games left to play during SEC play. Clemson has not reached the playoff since 2020, but a win over Georgia to open the season would assuredly put the Tigers in high regard moving forward as the ACC’s new favorite over Florida State.
If Clemson can pull off a win like this to start their season, it would be astronomically big for the Tigers. A win as big as that sets you on the path to success, especially with a future hall-of-fame coach.
