It was a big weekend for Clemson football as they walked away from Truist Field in Winston-Salem (N.C.) with a massive 51-45 double overtime win over Wake Forest.
Clemson pulling off a huge one against the Demon Deacons was enough to vault the team back into the top 5 of USA Today Sports’ latest NCAA 1-131 Re-Rank. After two straight weeks of ranking No.11 on the list, the Tigers jumped back up to No.5, where they started the season ranked on the list.
It is a good push back into the top five for the Tigers and one that makes sense. Their win over Wake Forest may not have been too pretty as starting quarterback Sam Hartman tore Clemson’s secondary apart. Still, the offense putting together a stellar performance supporting their injury-ridden defense when they needed it was a huge positive for this team.
From my perspective, this is exactly why you shouldn’t overreact from a game or two where a team didn’t look their best but still won by 20+ points. Clemson is back in an area they belong on these rankings.
