We can’t blame you if you’ve lost track of this, but as a reminder, rising senior point guard C.J. Walker did indeed enter his name into the 2020 NBA Draft around the same time Kaleb Wesson did. It was a bit of revelation during a media appearance by Chris Holtmann.
However, at the time, the head basketball coach gave an indication that it was just to get important feedback that would help Jackson become a more polished player for when he is ready to make that jump to the next level.
We now know that’s exactly what going through the NBA draft process was all about for Jackson, as he announced his official return to Ohio State for his senior season on his Instagram account Saturday.
Even though it was expected, Walker coming back is good news for the Ohio State program. His numbers don’t do justice for what he began to become to this team at the tail-end of last season. Once D.J. Carton stepped away for mental health reasons, he had to pick up his game. He did just that — scoring over double figures in his last six games and becoming one of the most reliable players on the team.
This goes without saying, but Walker should be the starting point guard for the 2020-2021 season.
