The 2024 NFL draft is just under two months away and while Caleb Williams is emerging as the favorite to be the No. 1 pick, the battle for QB1 is heating up.
North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye entered this past season as the consensus No. 2 quarterback with the chance to challenge Williams for No.1 overall. But as the year went on, it was LSU’s Jayden Daniels who put together a Heisman Trophy-winning season and is right there neck-and-neck with Maye.
Depending on who you ask, you’ll get some on Maye’s side and some on Daniels’ side. However, former quarterback and current analyst Chris Simms had a shocking take on Maye.
In his official quarterback rankings for this class released on Wednesday, Simms didn’t have Maye at No. 2 or No. 3. Instead, he had him as the No. 6 quarterback behind Bo Nix, Michael Penix and JJ McCarthy:

Simms listed Maye as a tier-four quarterback who is a ‘talented project’ for the draft. At this point, it has to be trolling as Simms is one of a VERY few analysts who don’t think Maye is even in the top 3.
It’s just more motivation for Maye to prove the doubters wrong.
