Chris Jones makes promises to Chiefs Kingdom following contract extension

Jones has delivered on all of his promises to Kansas City in the past.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones has agreed to terms on a brand new four-year contract extension, keeping him with the team through 2023.

Jones took to Twitter late on Tuesday evening to express his excitement over his new deal and that he’s staying with the Chiefs. In that excitement, Jones made a few promises to the Chiefs Kingdom about what’s to come with him sticking around in Kansas City for the next four years.

“I love you Chiefs,” Jones wrote. “I promise to bring you more Championship rings and a DPOY…”

The plan to run it back and repeat as Super Bowl champions only gets easier with Jones on the roster and happy. Still, these are some pretty lofty promises from Jones.

Jones has delivered on his promises in the past, though.

During 2017’s AFC title game, Jones sent a tweet that said, “We will be here next year. ‘Save this tweet.'” Of course, they’d go on to face the Patriots at Arrowhead Stadium in the AFC title game the next year.

The following year, after the AFC title loss and during Super Bowl LIII, Jones tweeted out, “We will win it next year.” Sure enough, the Chiefs did in fact win Super Bowl LIV the following year.

Jones is calling his shot again in a big way, saying that he’s going to bring more Super Bowl titles to Kansas City. That’s the goal for the entire team moving forward.

Then there’s a personal goal for Jones, to earn the title of Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY). It’s certainly possible for Jones. He had a case to previously win it in 2018 when he recorded 40 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks and 29 quarterback hits. The problem was that Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald had a slightly better season. Beating out a player like Donald, who plays the same position and won consecutive DPOY awards in 2017 and 2018, should be a prime motivation for Jones moving forward.
