Even if Spencer Dinwiddie is good to go when the NBA resumes the 2019-20 season at Disney World on July 30, Brooklyn can’t solely lean on him to manage ball-handling duties with Kyrie Irving (right shoulder) out.
Caris LeVert can help with those responsibilities, but he needs to be able to look for his own offense, too. Also, he’ll share the floor with Dinwiddie a fair amount — and both will need rest.
Newly acquired Tyler Johnson is a combo guard, but the Nets already had another point guard at the ready before they signed the ex-Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat deep threat. Chris Chiozza.
Even though his two-way contract wasn’t converted to a standard NBA contract, Chiozza can still help the Nets on the floor at Disney. Teams are allowed to bring their two-way players with them to the bubble as part of the roster.
And for Chiozza, this presents a major opportunity.
He’ll become a restricted free agent after the season, but Chiozza told reporters on a Zoom call Sunday he wants to stay put, per Nets Daily:
Chris Chiozza said he wasn’t that disappointed his two-way wasn’t converted to a standard deal but would “love” to return to Nets next season. Loves his teammates, staff, coaches. He’s an RFA come October.

The chances should be there for Chiozza to prove he can be Brooklyn’s third point guard off the bench for the foreseeable future. He just needs to take advantage of the unique opportunity in front of him.
