The Kansas City Chiefs are working on keeping defensive end Frank Clark.
As first reported by Albert Breer of The MMQB, Kansas City is working on a restructured deal for Clark. As of now, Clark is set to have a $26.3 million cap hit in 2022. NFL Network’s James Palmer has since confirmed this report.
Brett Veach did suggest that this was a possibility back at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine. Still, many believed the Chiefs would release or trade Clark, which could save the team $13.4 million if traded or released before June 1 or $19.85 million if traded or designated to be released post-June 1. Clark still has two years left on his deal so it looks like instead of a release or trade, the Chiefs have decided to try to keep Clark back in the fold.

Clark, who will turn 29 this summer, has spent the last three seasons with Kansas City. His performance has been up-and-down over those years as his sack numbers have steadily declined, going from eight in 2019 to 4.5 in 2021. Clark is perhaps most well-known for his playoff performances, earning eight total sacks in the 2019 and 2020 postseasons. However, he’s coming off a quiet 2021 postseason when he garnered zero sacks in three games.
