Kareem Hunt gave the Kansas City Chiefs serviceable running back play in Isiah Pacheco’s absence, but the team should consider adding a younger, more dynamic backup for next season. Oregon Ducks standout Jordan James’ style and aggression mirror Pacheco’s, making him a good running mate to select in the 2025 NFL draft.
James presses close to his offensive linemen and uses his lateral explosiveness to survey gaps before making sharp cuts upfield. He gets downhill quickly, rapidly accelerating into the hole. James doesn’t waste time on fancy moves or jukes in the backfield. He wants to play downhill at all times.
James runs hard every play. His one-cut, no-nonsense style often leads to him clashing with defenders in the hole. James lowers his pad level and drops his shoulder to hammer linebackers. He churns his legs through contact to pick up extra yardage. Defensive backs fear tackling him in open space because of his physicality.
Jordan James (Oregon) has answered a lot of questions this season and is a major riser at RB in the 2025 NFL Draft 👀

James lacks elite size, but his 5’10”, 210 lb. frame holds up well against contact. He maintains his balance breaking through tackle attempts aimed at his hips and thighs. James also deploys stiff arms and spin moves to play through contact.
James isn’t a twitchy athlete and lacks home run-hitting speed. His initial burst out-leverages some second-level defenders, but speedy linebackers catch him. His vision is mediocre, causing him to miss cutback lanes and run into some crowded spaces.
James makes limited contributions in the passing game. He doesn’t run many routes and lacks consistent hands. James delivers some big hits in pass protection but lacks the technique to sustain blocks. The Chiefs could select him in the fifth round.
