The Kansas City Chiefs were focused on building the defensive side of the ball during the 2022 NFL draft.
They made their first of three offensive selections on Day 2, adding wide receiver Skyy Moore from Western Michigan. Moore was a special player in college with great speed and ball skills, and he’s hoping to bring those traits to Kansas City.
The Chiefs went into the draft knowing they’d be entering a new season without all-pro receiver Tyreek Hill. The opportunity to add another weapon to help in replacing Hill’s production was something that couldn’t be ignored. Moore spoke about his abilities and what he brings to the offense during the second day of rookie minicamp.
“I feel like the receiver room that I’m walking into has about everything,” said Moore. “But I feel like I bring versatility and just another playmaker.”
Moore posted 95 receptions for over 1,200 yards and ten touchdowns at Western Michigan as a redshirt sophomore in 2021. He finished his college career as a two-time All-MAC first-team selection.
Asked about the types of players he could model himself after and the roles he could play in the K.C. offense, Moore reiterated that he’s here to be a playmaker.
“They make plays,” Moore says. “I just try to make plays. If you’re a playmaker, I want to do the same.”
While Moore has been limited in rookie minicamp due to a hamstring injury, he has been digging into the playbook with high hopes for his rookie season. He’s also already started to build a connection with his new All-Pro quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.
“Yeah, we had a couple of conversations just about coming in here, getting the playbook down and taking the mental reps,” said Moore. “Just doing everything I can to help me and set me up for the next step.”
Moore is a confident player that should fit in well with the personalities already on the Chiefs roster at the receiver position. His optimism heading into a new season should help the team solidify a revamped wide receiver position group in Kansas City.
