Chiefs rookie DE George Karlaftis likes ‘Furious George’ moniker

#Chiefs DE George Karlaftis gave his stamp of approval on the ‘Furious George’ nickname on Monday.

After a brief search, it appears that Chiefs Kingdom has found a new nickname for DE George Karlaftis. It’s one that the rookie approves of too.

Since April’s draft, fans in Kansas City have been wondering what they’d call Karlaftis. Many have called him “The Greek Freak” because of his Mediterranean heritage, but Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo might have something to say about that.

The nickname that has recently caught fire among Chiefs fans actually is a play on words of the popular children’s book series, “Curious George.” The Chiefs Kingdom has come to call Karlaftis by the nickname, “Furious George.”

Chiefs fan Dylan Dawson (@L0Rogue on Twitter) appears to have been the earliest adopter of the nickname, putting it out there back on August 13th during the team’s first preseason game against the Chicago Bears.

Karlaftis was asked about whether his teammates had given him a nickname during Monday’s media availability. That’s when he gave his stamp of approval for the “Furious George” moniker.

“I don’t know,” Karlaftis said. “Everybody just calls me ‘George.’ So, I like ‘Furious George’ that’s not bad.”

It’s certainly a fitting nickname when you consider his demeanor off the field, but also the non-stop motor and effort on display on the gridiron. What do you think of the nickname? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below and on Facebook and Twitter.
