On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs made a roster move that hit close to home for local fans.

According to the Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell, the Chiefs have released cornerback Ekow Boye-Doe as part of the team’s roster trimming before the start of the regular season.

Boye-Doe stood out at Kansas State for the Wildcats but went undrafted in April. The Chiefs signed him, allowing him to make the team out of training camp as he impressed coaches with his effort.

The undersized defensive back brought constant energy to the team throughout training camp, but his lack of experience and the Chiefs’ depth at cornerback didn’t work in his favor during roster cuts.

If Boye-Doe clears waivers, he should have a good chance to make Kansas City’s practice squad, where he could remain with the organization and continue his development. He finished the preseason with seven tackles, playing in the secondary and on special teams.
