Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes lobbies for Toronto Raptors to play in Kansas City next season

COVID-19 has the Toronto Raptors searching for an alternative home and Patrick Mahomes thinks it should be Kansas City.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes thinks it’s time for an NBA team to come to Kansas City and next season there’s possibly a way to make that happen.

The Toronto Raptors are the only NBA team that doesn’t make their home in the United States. With travel from the U.S. to Canada coming to a grinding halt because of COVID-19, the Raptors are scrambling to find an alternative home for the upcoming NBA season. A new report surfaced that one of the places currently in consideration is Louisville, Kentucky at Louisville’s KFC Yum! Center.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP has a different idea in mind, though. He wants the Raptors to come and play in Kansas City.

In addition to an incredible group of sports fans, Kansas City boasts an NBA quality arena at T-Mobile Center (formerly Sprint Center). It’s often home to the NCAA’s March Madness Basketball Tournament.

Mahomes isn’t the only one with this idea in mind, either. Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas was quick to let Twitter know that he’s working on it.

Mahomes’ teammate, Khalen Saunders, also endorsed the idea.

Bringing the Raptors to Kansas City would be a smart business move for the NBA. They could gauge the interest of a thriving sports market that doesn’t currently have an NBA team. Kansas City has long been on the list for future expansion franchises and this could be a great opportunity for the town to prove that they’re worthy of an NBA team.

Mahomes already brought his favorite burger franchise, Whataburger, to Kansas City. Perhaps his influence is enough to help the city add an NBA franchise too.
