The Kansas City Chiefs will have their first practice of the week ahead of their Week 7 game against the Tennessee Titans.

Andy Reid addressed the media ahead of practice on Wednesday, providing the latest updates on injured players. He had news on Michael Burton and Anthony Hitchens after their MRIs. He also had an update on Jody Fortson and his season-ending Achilles injury.

He began going through each injury, explaining that several players will sit out of practice with their respective injuries.

“Michael Burton has a pec strain,” Reid told reporters on Wednesday. “Jody Fortson had surgery this morning on his Achilles. Tyreek (Hill) will miss practice today with a quad contusion. We’ll just let that calm back down. (Anthony Hitchens) has a triceps contusion, he won’t practice today. We’re just calming that down, and then Joe Thuney, we’ll rest him today with the hand.”

Reid spoke at length about Fortson, whose injury will end his promising 2021 NFL season. He believes that Fortson still has a bright future in this league, but explained that his new job is to rehab and get himself back from that injury.

“Yeah, listen, things happen in this business,” Reid said. “He’ll be back. He’s built a nice foundation for himself. He got a nice taste of it. It’s just a matter of him getting in, getting him rehabbing and getting himself back. He knows that he can play now. Not that he didn’t know that before, but he’s done it. That’s where he’s at. There’s no easy way around it, he’s going to miss it, but he’s going to be busy rehabbing that thing.”

Two Chiefs players are slated to return to practice on Wednesday. Reid confirmed that both Chris Jones and Charvarius Ward will be back out there. They’ve both missed the past few weeks, so Reid is expecting a bit of an acclimation period for both players.

“Yeah, well, just kind of get back into the swing of things, knock the rust off,” Reid said. “They’ve been working hard, they just haven’t been practicing. Conditioning won’t be necessarily the issue, it’ll be just getting back out there and doing the football stuff.”

There were no updates on Kyle Long, who is eligible to return to practice this week. We’ll see whether he returned to practice on today’s personnel notice.
