Kansas City Chiefs’ Andy Reid provided his usual post-practice injury report to media members via Zoom after the first practice of the week on Wednesday. For the most part, the information that Reid provided appeared to be littered with good news. He did have three non-participants to report from practice, however.
“The guys who didn’t practice today were Tyreek (Hill), (Clyde) Edwards-Helaire and Damien Wilson,” Reid said. “They’re all making progress.”
One thing you’ll notice is that right tackle Mike Remmers did participate in practice in some capacity. He missed Week 15 with a back injury, which caused right guard Andrew Wylie to fill in for him. Remmers practicing is great news as it brings some much-needed stability at the right tackle position.
Obviously, fans are likely most concerned with the status of Hill, but this seems to be a preventative measure on part of the Chiefs. It all has to do with his hamstring, which seemed to be cramping up during the game.
“We’re taking Tyreek day-by-day,” Reid said. “His hamstring tightened up on him a bit during the game. I think he’s going to be fine I just want to make sure that thing gets a rest here today and then we’ll just see how it goes tomorrow. If he needs a rest tomorrow, we’ll rest him tomorrow. He went through the walkthrough and did all of that. I think he’s going to be OK.”
Reid also had some good news on the injury status of Edwards-Helaire. It appears he escaped major injury. He’s considered to be ahead of schedule in his recovery, which is huge with the playoffs approaching in just a few weeks.
“Clyde is a different story,” Reid said. “We probably won’t have Clyde this week, but he working at it. I mean, he’s ahead of schedule and that’s a good thing.”
Finally, Reid provided a brief update on LB Anthony Hitchens, who was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list as a high-risk close contact on Tuesday. He’ll be on the list for five days from the point of that close contact, which means he’s at limited risk of missing Week 16, so long as he continues to test negative.
“Hitch (Anthony Hitchens), likewise didn’t practice,” Reid said. “He’s in the protocol.”
All-in-all the injury news could have been much worse for the team coming out of Week 15. Right now signs point to a team that’s getting healthy along the offensive line and isn’t missing many pieces heading into the postseason.
