Kansas City Chiefs CB Bashaud Breeland is on a media tour this Wednesday, making the rounds in New York for in-studio appearances on various NFL media platforms.
The Chiefs signed Breeland in 2019, which came a year after a strange courting process. He was set to sign a long-term extension with the Carolina Panthers in 2018 but they failed his physical. He eventually found his way to a visit to St. Joseph for Chiefs’ training camp but failed to sign a contract with Kansas City. He’d later join the Green Bay Packers on a one-year deal for the remainder of 2018.
After signing with the Chiefs in 2019, Breeland played a big role in the Super Bowl LIV championship run and become one of the most trust corners on Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. Now, Breeland is a pending unrestricted free agent for the Chiefs in 2020. And from the looks of his media tour, he doesn’t expect to be back in Kansas City for 2019.
Early this morning, Breeland joined NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.” During the show, Breeland spoke about the Super Bowl championship and he also made a case for why teams should be looking to sign him this offseason.

Later, Breeland would join “The SiriusXM Blitz” with Bruce Murray and Bruce Gradkowski on NFL radio.
“I just wanted to put a face out there with a name,” Breeland said of his media tour in New York.
Murray and Gradkowski both marveled at Breeland’s Super Bowl performance, citing PFF grades and asking him about his interception. He credited Chris Jones and Mike Pennel for getting to Garoppolo and claimed he was simply doing his job by playing his leverage. Eventually, they got down to brass tax and asked Breeland about his expectations in free agency.
“I would love to continue on this journey with the Chiefs,” Breeland said. “I feel like they’ve got something special and I would love to be a part of it. I’m thankful for the opportunity that they allowed me to come in and be a part of an organization that allowed me to grow. When it comes to free agency I just want to be somewhere I’m needed and wanted. And where I can help bring the team to a winning stature.”
Breeland has been on a road well-traveled in the NFL. He spent four years in Washington out of college and a year in Green Bay before landing in Kansas City on the one-year deal. He bet on himself and now he’s looking to reclaim what he feels he lost when he missed out on the long term deal with Carolina in 2018.
“I had my opportunity at one point and it kind of slipped away from me,” Breeland said. “I kept my head down and stayed down until it was time for me to come back up. I had an opportunity to come [to Kansas City] and reset the market for myself. I took a prove-it deal after the injury. Now I just want to be compensated for what I am worth.”
Knowing that a long term contract is something that Breeland is seeking out, he was asked if the front office approached him about an extension?
“Not previously,” Breeland said. “I’ll leave that to my agent. I’m really not focused on negotiation and anything of that nature at this point. I’m just focusing on me, my family and enjoying this offseason while I can until I’m ready to go again.”
It’s still possible that the Chiefs could come to the table, but given the other priorities they’ll have during this free agency period, Breeland could be on his way out of Kansas City after just one season.
