Cubs at Padres picks and predictions

Prediction

Padres 3, Cubs 2

Money line

LEAN PADRES (-170) since they are 8-3 overall vs. left-handed starters and San Diego has been steamed up by sharp line movement from around a -140 opening ML favorite, according to VegasInsider.com.

San Diego’s lineup ranks in the top-10 against left-handed pitching in hard-hit rate (8th), wRC+ (9th), wOBA (9th) and BB/K rate (5th), per FanGraphs.

However, it’s only a LEAN to the PADRES (-170) because this ML is pricey considering Chicago’s bullpen has better pitching peripherals and Clevinger is still working his way back from an injury that kept him sidelined in 2021.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS because the Padres -1.5 (+133) are just 4-6 RL as home favorites and haven’t scored more than 3 runs in their last 5 games and the Cubs +1.5 (-165) are 6-5 RL as road underdogs.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 6.5 (+100) only because we are getting to the party late on the total since it opened at 7.5, but has been steamed down by a flood of sharp money.

But, Cubs-Padres is 1-5-1 O/U in their last 7 meetings, Petco Park is a pitcher-friendly ballpark and the weather forecast is predicting nearly 13 mph winds blowing in from right-center field.
