Chase Young falling to Giants in 2020 NFL Draft remains unlikely

Despite a momentary boost to the odds, Chase Young falling to the New York Giants in the 2020 NFL Draft remains unlikely.

Ohio State edge rusher Chase Young is considered by many to be the best overall player in the upcoming NFL Draft. Young is not expected to be picked first overall, however.

The Cincinnati Bengals, who own that pick, are said to be high on LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, the Heisman Trophy winner who led the Tigers to the National Championship.

Young is likely to be selected with the second pick, which is held by the Washington Redskins. Prop bets have been set at -400 for that to happen. The Redskins could also trade out of that spot or even take another quarterback, perhaps Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.

The New York Giants would love for that to happen, albeit very likely.

Young currently has +900 odds to be selected fourth overall, but with the current promotion being offered by William Hill, you can grab him at +1200 odds until 11:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday,” reports 247Sports’ Matt Howe. “The heavy favorite to draft Young is the Washington Redskins with the No. 2 overall pick at -400 odds. Another prop that is heavily favored is LSU quarterback Joe Burrow to be picked No. 1 overall and Chase Young to be picked No. 2. That Burrow is drafted No. 1 followed by Young at No. 2 is a yes-only prop listed at -450 odds.

+900 isn’t considered a long-shot, but it’s not considered favorable, either. A lot would have to happen for Young to fall out of the top three slots.

Cincinnati appears to be leaning toward Burrow, but there have been rumblings that Miami is seeking to move up from No. 5 to take Burrow themselves. That would not upset the order in front of the Giants, but a surprise pick by the Redskins at No. 2 would. If Washington bypasses Young for a quarterback, that means he’ll fall to Detroit at No. 3.

Detroit would likely select Young if that scenario played out. However, they could opt for Young’s Ohio State teammate, cornerback Jeff Okudah, or trade back themselves with, let’s say, the Los Angeles Chargers or the Carolina Panthers, who hold the sixth and seventh picks respectively to leap over Miami or Cincinnati, whoever holds the fifth pick.

The Giants are also in a great spot at No. 4 for the same type of trade back should Young no longer be on the board. That will most likely be the case but since the Lions and Giants are not likely to move off their spots, those teams might decide to stay put and let the quarterbacks fall to them.
