The anticipation is almost over for The Match 4.
There’s been constant trash talk over the past few weeks regarding the matchup of Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady against Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers. This is the fourth iteration of the winner-take-all golf event and last year consisted of Mickelson and Charles Barkley as the winning team against Peyton Manning and Steph Curry.
Despite the success Mickelson had with Barkley, he now has the seven-time Super Bowl champion as his partner. Barkley will be an analyst for the event on TNT, but he still isn’t happy with his lack of involvement on the course. While joining The Dan Patrick Show, Barkley showed his frustration toward Mickelson.
“I’m just disgusted by Phil Mickelson,” Barkley said. “I cannot believe that he want to play with this mother instead of me. … Me and Phil were the defending champs, but I can’t believe he gonna stick with this mother — I can’t say what Tom said (on The Shop) — but I can’t believe he want to stick with this mother instead of me.”
Barkley had some words for Brady as well — he clearly isn’t happy with the decision. Patrick asked how Barkley would do in a head-to-head matchup against Brady.
“(Brady is) overrated, overrated; he’s overrated. Flash in the pan, I don’t know if he’s ever going to be successful at anything,” Barkley said.
“He’s a really nice person; he’s a really nice person,” Barkley said. “I think he’s the greatest athlete arguably ever; I do, I truly believe that. He’s clearly the greatest football player ever, but I think he’s in the conversation with [Muhammad] Ali, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky. Those are the greatest ever; that’s just my personal opinion. … I like to bash him because he got a great sense of humor, but I don’t think Tom can beat me in golf. I really don’t. Not right now he can’t.”
The Match 4 is on Tuesday, July 6 at 5 p.m. ET on TNT.
