Charles Barkley called the NCAA ‘the Barney Fife of the world’ in scathing rant

“They do an awful job of administrating.”

Of course Charles Barkley is going to deliver a criticism of the NCAA in the middle of broadcasting show during March Madness. We all know he never, ever holds back.

In the middle of his longtime Inside the NBA colleague Kenny Smith speaking about the NCAA’s rulebook on the air, Barkley interrupted: “Please stop. … Stop that ‘rules’ stuff.”

He went on to rip the organization for a myriad of reasons.

“The NCAA, they’re like the Barney Fife of the world,” he said. “They do an awful job of administrating. We’ve got guys on teams paying players three years ago — they ain’t said nothing about it.”

“The NCAA,” he continued, “they are so far behind the times, they’re so reactive. It’s time for them to get their crap together. They say they want to stop cheating, they want to make everything equal, with the women which was a travesty and a disgrace.”

That last part, of course, refers to the way the NCAA failed its women’s tournament teams. And Barkley would hardly be the last person to who felt this way about the organization’s failures.
