Chandler Jones eyes single-season sack record in 2020

“I don’t think that’s hard to get and if there was a year to do it, this could be the year to do it,” he told reporters.

Arizona Cardinals outside linebacker Chandler Jones set a career high in sacks last season and broke his own franchise record. With 19 sacks, he was half a sack from the league lead.

After having two four-sack games last season, there was talk he could break Michael Strahan’s single-season sack record of 22.5.

Jones believes he can reach that this year.

“That’s always a goal of mine,” he told reporters in a press conference last week. “I don’t think that’s hard to get and if there was a year to do it, this could be the year to do it.”

Jones believes this is the year he can do it because “we have more help on our team — we have a better team.”

The Cardinals added Jordan Phillips on the defensive line, who had 9.5 sacks in 2019, giving the defense more of an interior presence. They added Devon Kennard opposite Jones, who has had seven sacks each of the last two seasons.

The offense should be better, leading to more points and potentially more leads, which will lead to more passing attempts by opponents.

“A little more help from the defense and the offense, that should help that total come up for sure,”

Jones has more sacks than any other player since he entered the league. No one has more than the 60 he has since he joined the Cardinals in 2016.

If there is anyone who can set a new record, why not Jones?
