The Boston Celtics grabbed a loud game one victory at home against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night. In the process, the club helped interim coach Joe Mazzulla secure his first win as an NBA head coach.
Mazzulla, 34, stepped in following the suspension of Ime Udoka a few weeks ago. Though Mazzulla has been with the organization since the Brad Stevens days, he entered tonight’s game untested and unproven. Tuesday’s victory was a small step forward in Mazzulla’s career.
After the game the Rhode Island native spoke to his club about the win that was. Unsurprisingly, his players were more interested in celebrating the victory than nodding through a pep talk. The Celtics surprised Mazzulla with a healthy soaking to commemorate his big win.
