Celtics fall to Pacers 108-107 with bad defense, poor communication

Defensive lapses and poor communication cost the Celtics a winnable game Sunday.

The Boston Celtics dropped a very winnable game to the Indiana Pacers after an often-lackadaisical and defensively disorganized effort on Sunday evening on the road in Indianapolis.

Indiana big man Domantas Sabonis made a layup with 8.4 seconds left to give the Pacers the 108 – 107 win over the Celtics. Sabonis finished the contest with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for Indiana, and Jayson Tatum put up 25 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for Boston in the eminently avoidable. The Pacers are now 3 – 0 this season, while the Celtics stare down a tough 1 – 2 start to their 2020-21 campaign.

“We definitely beat ourselves tonight and there was still an opportunity to win the game,” Celtics star forward Jaylen Brown said after the game.

“We gave it up at the end. We’ve got to come back and be better, be more physical and more solid on defense.”
