To actually have a shot at winning the NBA’s Kia Most Valuable Player award, you have to have a certain set of things going your way.
You need a narrative that engages the media who will vote for (or against) you. You need to be able to put the proverbial biscuit in the basket at a high volume, be fairly solid at stopping others from doing so and have the support from and for your teammates.
Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum has all of the above going for him in the early going of the Celtics’ 2022-23 campaign. Even head coach Joe Mazzulla has said what being in the conversation for the coveted award is doing for Tatum’s play.
“Just expanding his game has made him a better player,” said the Boston interim coach at a recent press conference as he lauded the growth in the St. Louis native that has Tatum in the mix in the first place.
