The NFC East has an impressive group of running backs, led by the New York Giants’ Saquon Barkley and the Dallas Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliot.
CBS Sports’ Jared Dubin recently ranked every NFL division based on the group of running backs in them, and the NFC East came out on top.
The NFC East has two of the five best backs in the league, with Elliott and Barkley. It has another guy who looks just about ready to join that group, with Sanders, who looked every bit of a three-down back last season while totaling 1,327 yards and six touchdowns scored on 229 touches.
Here’s a look at how the rest of the divisions were ranked behind the NFC East.
1. NFC East
2. AFC North
3. NFC South
4. AFC West
5. NFC North
6. AFC South
7. NFC West
8. AFC East
Barkley and Elliot are easily two of the best all-around backs in the NFL, and the Eagles have a rising star in Miles Sanders, so it’s easy to see why the division tops this list.
Barkley will once again be the main man out of the backfield for the Giants in 2020. In 2019, the Penn State product missed three games due to a high-ankle sprain, but was still able to top 1,000 yards on the ground, while also adding 438 yards through the air and eight total scores.
Big Blue also added a little depth at the position this offseason by signing veteran free agent, Dion Lewis, who should be a solid option in the passing game in the rare occasions that Barkley isn’t on the field.
