CBS Sports had some curious analysis on the Buffalo Bills and their offense.

In slotting each NFL offense into tiers, the outlet called the Bills a “second-tier” team.

When that same exercise was done for the defensive side of the ball, Buffalo got their correct due.

In the top area of “most likely” to be one of the league’s best defenses, the Bills found themselves there.

Here’s the breakdown:

Buffalo finished last season first in DVOA, EPA per play, yards per play, and points per drive, then added Von Miller to a deep group of edge rushers. Even with Tre’Davious White potentially missing part of the season rehabbing his ACL tear, the Bills seem like a near lock to have a top defense.

While CBS Sports might have overthought their analysis on the Bills and their offense, no such thing was done on the defense. Rightfully so.

Buffalo finished well in almost every defensive category last season and then went on to add a future Hall of Famer in Von Miller. He also happens to play their “weak” spot on that side of the ball as well.

Pretty easy choice.

In the end, only three teams landed in this “most likely” category. There, Buffalo was joined by the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints.
