Anglo-American GT and LMP outfit United Autosports has made its final driver announcement ahead of the 2024 FIA WEC season, with former British Supersport biker Josh Caygill set to return to GT racing with the team.

Caygill, who has been competing in LMP3 competition for the past two years as part of the European Le Mans Series and Le Mans Cup, will team up with Marino Sato and Nico Pino in United’s No. 95 McLaren 720S GT3 EVO.

“I am absolutely over the moon to be racing the No.95 McLaren in the World Endurance Championship,” said Caygill. “This will be my first season on the world stage, and in a McLaren! I am so excited for this opportunity.”

The race in Qatar to open the season next month will be Caygill’s first race start in a GT car since the end of his 2021 Porsche Carerra Cup GB campaign. Prior to that, his career CV features GT3 appearances in the Blancpain GT Series, VLN and 24H Series.

“Josh is another fantastic addition to our WEC team, completing a dynamic line-up in the No. 95 with co-drivers Marino Sato and Nico Pino,” said Richard Dean, United Autosports CEO.

“His development with United Autosports over the past two years has been clear, celebrating a pole position and podiums along the way, and I know he will give his full focus to this new challenge in partnership with McLaren Automotive.”

United’s 2024 FIA WEC LMGT3 driver line-up is now complete. Caygill, Sato and Pino will share its No. 95, while James Cottingham, Gregoire Saucy and Nicolas Costa will drive the sister No. 59.

The driver list for the first season of LMGT3 in the FIA WEC is now complete, with three drivers now named against all 18 cars set to take part in the full season.
