Notre Dame (5-0) vs Georgia Tech (2-4) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Notre Dame Will Win

It might not be splashy, and it might not be all that exciting, but Notre Dame has been tough as nails, especially on third downs.

Don’t get caught up in the lack of a big passing game – that worked just fine last week against Pitt. Don’t get into a twist over the lack of takeaways. The Irish lead all ACC teams in third down defense, and the offense is hitting 52% of its chances – only Clemson is better.

Georgia Tech has the ACC’s worst third down defense, the run D is giving up close to 200 yards per game, and it’s about to get hammered on by the strong Notre Dame offensive line and a ground attack that’s averaging over five yards per carry.

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

Can Georgia Tech somehow start forcing takeaways from the start?

The Georgia Tech defense hasn’t exactly been a brick wall – giving up 121 points over the last two games – but it’s been able to take the ball away. It didn’t do it against Boston College in last week’s loss, but it generated two takeaways or more in four of the other five games.

Offensively, for the first time in years, the passing game is working. A lot is coming from an attempt to keep up, but at least the yards are there with 244 or more in four of the six games. Georgia Tech hit the 200-yard passing mark in three times in the previous 47 games.

What’s Going To Happen

Notre Dame doesn’t seem to be able to play the same type of game twice, but it’s been effective. On the plus side, the Irish are adaptable to the flows of games.

Georgia Tech’s defense isn’t doing enough in any way, but Notre Dame isn’t going to get crazy here. Run, control the tempo, control the clock, own third downs, and then …

It’s on to Clemson Week.

Virginia Tech (3-2) vs Louisville (2-4) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Virginia Tech Will Win

When the Hokie running game is on, forget it.

It seems to be just this simple. Run for over 300 yards, win. Don’t, and lose. Virginia Tech is 3-0 when it hits three bills and 0-2 when it’s under.

Overall, the Louisville run defense and defensive front have been okay, but it’s been getting progressively worse over the last four games allowing 265 yards to a generally punchless Florida State last week after getting hit for 232 yards by Notre Dame.

On the other side, the Virginia Tech defense has been great at getting behind the line, and now it gets to hammer on a Louisville offensive front that’s among the worst in the nation in tackles for loss allowed.

There’s a flip side to the running game …

Why Louisville Will Win

Virginia Tech’s run defense has been spotty.

It’s 3-0 when allowing fewer than 140 yards on the ground and 0-2 – coinciding with the lack of 300-yard rushing excellence on its own side – when giving up more, getting ripped up by North Carolina for almost 400 yards and Wake Forest for 206.

Louisville has rushed for over 240 yards in two of the last three games.

The offense has been hit-or-miss, but the pass defense has been solid, the attack scores whenever it gets deep into opposing territory, and it’s coming off one of the best games of the year by QB Malik Cunningham.

The weapons are there to keep up.

What’s Going To Happen

Seriously? This is the first time these two teams have played as members of the ACC? How is it even possible that schools just 350 miles apart – that’s a driver/3-wood in college athletic travel – haven’t played since the 2006 Gator Bowl and only met seven times? Virginia Tech is 5-2, by the way.

Be mad if this isn’t fun.

Louisville’s offense has been stunningly mediocre on the road, but now it’s at home again after rolling by FSU last week. Virginia Tech has been great at home and just okay on the road, with both of its losses coming away from Blacksburg.

Virginia Tech is the stronger team, but Louisville’s defense is playing better lately …

It’s going to be a fight that comes down to a late drive. Virginia Tech will be +2 in turnover margin – that will be enough.

Clemson (6-0) vs Boston College (4-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Boston College Will Win

Well hello, running game.

Boston College relied on Phil Jurkovec and the high-powered passing attack int href first five games, and then it committed to the ground game against Georgia Tech – and it worked.

It tried to run against Duke to start the season, and noting happened. It tried against Pitt, and it really didn’t happen. For the first time all year, BC finally hit the 100-yard mark, cranking out 264 yards.

Clemson’s defense has been incredible, but it’s possible to run a little bit against this group. BC won’t do that – it’ll try winning with Jurkovec – but at least it can give it a shot.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Clemson Will Win

Here comes the pass rush.

Boston College hasn’t been great in pass protection – it’s part of the reason why the rushing numbers aren’t any good – and it allows way too many plays behind the line.

Clemson didn’t do much to get to the quarterback against Syracuse last week – bizarre, considering the Orange O line is totally miserable – but it’s been great at flying into the backfield on a regular basis. Get to Jurkovec, and it’s going to get ugly.

The Clemson offense continues to be a machine, having few problems scoring when it needs and wants to. There hasn’t been any stress, and that’s because the team is hitting on the big plays early on and coasting from there.

Except against Syracuse.

The Orange kept this interesting in the second half, but when it was time to end it, Clemson did.

CFN Experts Picks: College

What’s Going To Happen

And now everything just took a big turn with Trevor Lawrence testing positive for the coronavirus.

Clemson has a future superstar in DJ Uiagalelei waiting and ready to go, and the football team should be fine, but obviously the dynamic changes.

In a right-offense-right-coaching-right-quarterback-right-day sort of way, Boston College has a shot to pull off something quirky.

Clemson isn’t close to being a program that looks ahead, but the Notre Dame showdown is up next, and BC has enough of a passing attack to make this scary. No one has totally blowtorched the Eagle secondary, but generating the big plays down the field hasn’t been a problem.

One burst of first half points will do it for Clemson and the running game will take over, but it’ll still be at least a wee bit of a game in the third quarter.

Minnesota (1-0) vs Maryland (0-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Minnesota Will Win

The Maryland offense still doesn’t work.

Northwestern might have a solid defense, but to start out the season with a 43-3 loss – only generating an early field goal, and that’s it – with just 207 yards showed just how far the program still has to go.

Minnesota night have struggled in the opener against Michigan, but the D should catch a break this week, and the offense should be able to open it up a bit after the rough start.

Tanner Morgan and the passing game shouldn’t have a problem, but the Mohamed Ibrahim and the rushing attack should go wild against a defensive front that allowed 325 yards of Northwestern rushing offense.

Why Maryland Will Win

Eventually this offense is going to work.

QB Taulia Tagovailoa is a good enough talent to be far better than he showed against Northwestern, and Lance LeGendre hit all four of his passes. There’s talent in the receiving corps, there’s speed, and there’s enough in place to be far more explosive once it clicks.

Michigan came up with a great offensive balance against the Gophers and always had an answer against a Gopher defense that couldn’t do enough to get into the backfield. On the other side, the offensive line couldn’t stop the Wolverine pass rush. Maryland has to sell out on one side of the line, and it has to give the quarterbacks time to work.

What’s Going To Happen

Maryland did next to nothing right against Northwestern, but now it’s getting a shot at home to turn this around in a hurry. It won’t happen.

Minnesota is far better than it looked against a strong Michigan team that owned the lines. This week, this will be the Gopher team many thought would show up last Saturday night. The running game and the offense will control the clock for close to 40 minutes.

NFL Free Predictions, Previews from Winners & Whiners: Week 12

The NFL free previews and predictions for Week 12 from Winners & Whiners

[jwplayer PkCtjTd4-boEY74VG]

NFL Football Free Predictions

Presented by Winners and Whiners in partnership with CFN!

In the NFL, we’re headed to Week 12 after a week that saw no major upsets, though Atlanta crushing Carolina on the road was one. Baltimore continues to roll and New England finds a way to win without an explosive offense. This week is headlined by Seattle at Philadelphia, Dallas at New England and Green Bay at San Francisco.

*Seattle is coming off a bye after playing back-to-back overtime games (both wins). They aren’t demolishing teams but they have won six of seven games. They face an Eagles squad that struggled on offense against the Patriots last week in a 17-10 home loss. They could use WR Alshon Jeffery and RB Jordan Howard, who both missed the New England game. But the extra rest and Russell Wilson will be too much for the Eagles. Take the road dog.

*Dallas has defeated one quality team in Philadelphia and that’s it. Last week, they had to hold on to beat Detroit, who is playing with Jeff Driskel as the starting quarterback. They face a New England team that can’t really run the ball and has struggled passing the ball against quality defenses. New England is just getting by right now due to an outstanding defense. Playing at home for the first time in November will help Tom Brady and company as their offense wakes up against the Cowboys. Take the home favorite.

*San Francisco has just one loss but they were fortunate to beat Arizona by 10 last week in a much tougher contest than the score indicated. The 49ers have a massive amount of injuries on the offensive side. The Packers are coming off a bye and Aaron Rodgers returns to his home base of Northern California. He’ll have a tough time against a defense that is allowing just 142.5 yards per game in the air. Take the home team.

Week 11 NFL previews and predictions from Winners & Whiners

[jwplayer PkCtjTd4-boEY74VG]

NFL Football Free Predictions

Presented by Winners and Whiners in partnership with CFN!

In the NFL, we’re headed to Week 11 after one of the best weeks of the season that ended with San Francisco losing their first game of the season on Monday night. This week is headlined by Houston at Baltimore, New England taking on Philadelphia and New Orleans at Tampa Bay.

(note: These picks were made by our Editor and are subject to change. Check out WinnersandWhiners.com for a full analysis and update on each matchup)

*There will be a battle of MVP candidates when Deshaun Watson takes on Lamar Jackson. Houston is coming off a bye after they annihilated Jacksonville, 26-3 on the road from London in their last game. Can Houston slow down Jackson and the league’s top running game that averages 197.2ypg.? The Texans are very good against the run, but this is not your average run offense. Batlimore is good against the run (91.2ypg), but they have struggled against the pass (252.9ypg). The Ravens blew out Cincinnati last week and while they may not blow out Houston, they will cover at home.

*The Saints were a no-show last week at home against Atlanta, falling 26-9 in the most shocking upset of the week. That broke a six-game winning streak. The Saints should get back on track, but they weren’t dominant against the Bucs in their first meeting, winning 31-24 on Oct. 6. Tampa Bay broke a four-game losing streak by beating Arizona last week by three. The Bucs do stop the run (77.8ypc), but they stink against the pass (298.9ypg). The Saints will wake up this week and take apart the Bucs on the road. Go with the road fave.

*The marquee game of the week features New England and Philadelphia coming off a bye. This is a Super Bowl  XXXIX  rematch when the Eagles beat the Patriots, 41-33. Nick Foles is in Jacksonville, so Carson Wentz has something to prove. The Patriots are coming off their first loss, a 37-20 defeat at Baltimore two weeks ago. Philly is starting to put things together and they stop the run (87.3ypg). Wentz has something to prove so take the Eagles at home, getting 3.5.
