For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Eastern Kentucky Will Win

The Colonels got bombed by Marshall and West Virginia, but the offense ramped it up and it’s starting to move in wins over The Citadel and Houston Baptist, dealing with two entirely different offenses and coming through.

QB Parker McKinney is doing a better job with the passing game, its an efficient attack over the last few weeks, and the team isn’t screwing up enough to be a problem.

The Troy passing attack isn’t doing much down the field, but …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Troy Will Win

The Trojans aren’t turning the ball over, leading all Sun belt teams in turnover margin – they’ve given it up just two times – but the passing game is still pushing it down the field.

Gunnar Watson is coming off a 338-yard, four-touchdown day against Texas State as he’s hitting close to 70% of his passes. If the Trojans get up early, EKU shouldn’t have the punch to get back in the game.

The Colonels can’t run the ball, and they’re not going to do it against a D allowing fewer than four yards per carry and is decent enough at getting into the backfield.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

Troy couldn’t handle BYU on the road, but it rolled Middle Tennessee and Texas State. These two former FCS combatants are at different levels now – the Trojans will roll with a strong offensive balance putting this away in the first half.

Georgia Southern (2-1) vs UMass (0-0) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why UMass Will Win

After a disastrous 2019, what should work for a UMass team that’s just getting started?

The offensive line is full of veterans and has enough size to be able to provide a wee bit of a push. Pass protection was a major problem, but the receiving corps is in play to be a problem for a Georgia Southern defense that’s giving up close to 300 passing yards per game.

Can the Minutemen slow down the Eagle running game? A whole lot of defensive parts are back, the experience is there to see a bit of an instant improvement, and there’s been a whole lot of time to prepare for what’s coming.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Georgia Southern Will Win

The Eagles are getting the ground game working like they need it to. It’s not controlling the clock, but it’s coming off a 340-yard rushing day in the win over ULM, the defense is doing a decent job of taking the ball away, and after three games, it’s going to be in football shape and UMass won’t be.

UMass has to do a whole lot to be night-and-day better than it was last year on the lines. The defense was among the worst in the nation, allowing 320 rushing yards or more in five of the last six games.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

UMass is going to need a while to get everything going. It’s not going to be pretty against a Georgia Southern team that’s had a hard time in three tight battles to start the season. The Eagle running game should blow past 300 yards in an easy win.

Texas State (1-4) vs South Alabama (1-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Texas State Will Win

Forget the 1-4 record, the Bobcats have been solid, losing to SMU, Boston College, and UTSA all by a touchdown or less in games that could’ve easily swung the other way.

The passing game was great before clunking against Troy, and the scoring is there. The team failed to get to 21 points seven times last season, and it’s already been able to get there four times in the first five games.

The South Alabama offense has been working relatively well so far with a passing attack that can crank it up a bit. Texas State should be able to keep up, but …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why South Alabama Will Win

The Bobcat secondary hasn’t been great. Quarterbacks are hitting 70% of their passes against this D with three 300-yard games in the first five and enough shots down the field to open up the attack.

The Jaguars struggled in the 42-10 loss to UAB with Chance Lovertich taking over at quarterback for a banged up Desmond Trotter, but the passing attack should work no matter what down the field – it’s averaging a Sun Belt best 15.8 yards per completion.

Defensive, the USA front is active enough to give the up-tempo Texas State attack problems. This group is always working

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

These two will play a very fun, very energetic, very exciting game full of big plays and a whole lot of offense. It might come down to the last at-bat, and South Alabama has a slightly stronger kicking game.

College Football Free Predictions, Previews Winners and Whiners: Week 7

[jwplayer PkCtjTd4-boEY74VG]

From Winners and Whiners

*Pitt has suffered the toughest losses in FBS this season. That includes a 31-30 overtime loss at Boston College and a 30-29 defeat to NC State home on Oct. 3. They are hoping that senior QB Kenny Pickett (ankle) can start in this game. Pickett threw for 266 yards last week with two TDs and a pick. His defense ranks third in the nation in sacks with 4.8 per game. Miami is led by senior QB D’Eriq King, who has six TDS and two picks. Those two picks came against Clemson. The Cards are good, but they haven’t really beaten anybody and Pickett should play in this one. Take the points and Pittsburgh on the road.

*Mississippi State and Mike Leach were riding high after a 44-34 opening road win over LSU. Well, the Tigers are not very good this season and neither are the Bulldogs. They’ve scored a combined 16 points in losses to Kentucky and Arkansas in the last two games. The Aggies are coming off an impressive 41-38 win over Florida last week. Kellen Mond was the forgotten SEC quarterback and passed for 338 yards and three TDs last week. Meanwhile, Stanford transfer K.J. Costello has nine interceptions this season. Take Texas A&M on the road.

*Georgia is 3-0 after beating up on Tennessee 44-21 last week. They got off to a slow start in that one, but crushed the Vols in the second half. Alabama allowed 643 yards to Ole Miss last week, but still beat the Rebels 63-48. This is a match up of strong offenses as Alabama’s Mac Jones takes on Georgia’s Stetson Bennet. Georgia has the better defense and Alabama has more offensive weapons. Alabama at home and a tough week of practice for the defense. Take the Tide giving up the six points.

_____________________________

The NFL returns for Week 6 on Sunday and there are some great matchups. Let’s start with an AFC North tilt with Cleveland at Pittsburgh. Green Bay returns from a bye to take on Tampa Bay, while the Rams and 49ers meet in an NFC West matchup.

(note: Some of these picks were made by W&W Editor and are subject to change)

*The Browns don’t have Nick Chubb, but they didn’t need him last week in their 32-23 win over Indianapolis. Their defense picked off Philip Rivers twice and Baker Mayfield threw for 247 yards with two TDs and two INTs. They’ll face an undefeated Pittsburgh team that showed little rust after a bye in last week’s 38-29 win over Philadelphia. This one will come down to defense and the Steelers have one of the best in the league. Lay the points with Pittsburgh.

*Aaron Rodgers get a break when he meets up with Tom Brady, in what should be a fun game. Tampa Bay played last Thursday and they were shocked at Chicago 20-19. The Bucs missed Chris Godwin at wide receiver. He’s questionable for this one and Bucs could also use Leonard Fournette, who is not listed on the injury report. The Packers are getting Davante Adams back. That’s all Rodgers needs. Take the Packers on the road.

*The Rams took care of business the last two weeks against bad NFC teams in Washington (30-10) and the New York Giants (17-9). The Niners have looked bad against Philadelphia (25-20) and Miami (43-17) at home. Their secondary has been a mess and the offense has been awful with Jimmy Garoppolo struggling with an ankle injury. The Rams’ defense is much better and that will be the difference. Take the Rams on the road as the slight favorite.

Georgia State (1-1) vs Arkansas State (2-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Georgia State Will Win

The ground game has been fantastic so far.

It was hot early on last year – running for 200 yards or more in eight of the first nine games – but failed to hit 200 the rest of the way, not giving it up with 199 in the bowl loss to Wyoming. It’s 2-for-2 so far at getting to two bills this year.

Destin Coates has been great with two straight 100-yard games as the workhorse, and Cornelious Brown is settling into the starting quarterback gig. The offense has been fun, but the defense has stepped it up, at least on third downs.

The Panthers are only allowing teams to hit 26% of their third down chances, and Arkansas State hasn’t been automatic at moving the chains.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Arkansas State Will Win

The Red Wolves are still cranking up the offense – they’re second in the Sun Belt – but the defense isn’t holding up its end of the bargain. However, it’s taking the ball away forcing three turnovers in each of the last two games.

Georgia State’s defense is allowing too many yards through the air, and the Arkansas State quarterbacks are rolling. Logan Bonner and Layne Hatcher are each able to move the offense, and they each have an emerging superstar to throw to.

WR Jonathan Adams has been brilliant with six catches or more in every game with a 101-yard game last week against Central Arkansas and five touchdowns overall.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

Can the Arkansas State defense show up enough to pull this off? It got rolled by Memphis and Coastal Carolina, held up late against Kansas State, and now it has to deal with a dangerous Georgia State attack.

Being at home will help. This is Georgia State’s first road game, the ASU passing attack will hit 300 yards, and this should be almost as fun a game as the Coastal Carolina win over Louisiana on Wednesday night.

UCF (2-1) vs Memphis (1-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why UCF Will Win

And here comes the UCF passing game.

It worked just fine in the loss to Tulsa – Dillon Gabriel threw for 330 yards, but he only came up with one touchdown after throwing for four scores in each of the first two games – and now it’s about to hit a Memphis secondary that had no prayer against the SMU air show and had issues against Arkansas State, too.

This is still as explosive and as dangerous as any offense in the country when it gets into a groove. The home run hitters are there in the backfield, the deep ball plays are in place, and despite the issues on defense that give up around 450 yards per game, the takeaways are there.

However …

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Memphis Will Win

UCF has been weird.

The offense is doing what the offense normally does, but the team has been in firefights in all three games that seemed like they could’ve gone either way.

They went the UCF way in the wins over Georgia Tech and East Carolina, and the other way in the stunning loss to Tulsa.

Turnovers were a bit part of that, too.

The Knights were helped out of a shaky overall performance against Georgia Tech with five takeaways at key times, turning the tight game into a blowout. They generated four turnovers against ECU to take over that game, and against Tulsa …

Even in turnover margin, but the three giveaways mattered.

Memphis has been decent against the run over the first two games, and that’s part of the key here – make UCF one-dimensional. Make the offense press and home to generate a few takeaways.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

It’s supposed to be the American Athletic Conference game of the year, but instead of this being a battle of titanic unbeatens, it’s a question of survival.

That doesn’t mean it won’t be fun.

Both teams are near-locks to run and throw for 200 yards – Memphis is averaging just over 500 yards per game, UCF is averaging 582 – so it’ll likely come down to turnovers.

UCF has yet to play a fully even 60 minute game, and Memphis is still trying to get its legs.

UCF is a wee bit better at taking the ball away than Memphis is.

Navy (2-2) vs East Carolina (1-2) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why Navy Will Win

Can East Carolina slow down a good running game? Sort of.

UCF and Georgia State were able to run without any sort of a problem in their wins over the Pirates, but USF couldn’t get going with just 92 yards. The Bulls ran for three touchdowns, but they weren’t enough to keep up.

Navy might not be consistent, but it’s been able to rise up in spurts just enough to pull a few wins out of the fire – it’s figuring it out. It starts with the running game, but the passing attack is connecting on the big play, leading the nation averaging close to 18 yards per completion.

Navy isn’t going to be Mississippi State wining it around, but it’ll be effective enough to be a problem.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why East Carolina Will Win

East Carolina can take away a big part of the Navy puzzle – time of possession.

For the whole Midshipmen style to work, they have to control the tempo and keep their defense off the field. Unfortunately for them, East Carolina has been able to grind things out at times just enough to lead the AAC in time of possession, keeping the ball for close to 34 minutes per game.

Keep the your offense on the field for an extra ten minutes against Navy, and good things are going to happen.

The ECU offense has enough balance to keep Navy backpedaling. Holton Ahlers has thrown for over 200 yards in each of the three games, and the ground game hit the 200-yard mark in two of the three.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

Navy is way, way, way too close to being 0-4 instead of 2-2. It’s really around three plays away from being winless, because the running game isn’t working like it’s supposed to and the team isn’t controlling things on the lines.

East Carolina isn’t going to lock down defensively to make this easy, but the offense will be good enough and balanced enough to be in control throughout.

USF (1-3) vs Temple (0-1) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college football, go to BetMGM

Why USF Will Win

The team is still trying to get all the parts together, but it’s been strong overall in the secondary – at least until last week’s loss to East Carolina.

The D picked off three passes to keep it close to Cincinnati, it’s allowing a not-bad 6.6 yards per throw, and overall it’s been okay at taking the ball away forcing seven turnovers.

Now the run offense has to get going again.

Playing Navy always skews the stats, but Temple’s defensive front had an issue in the loss slowing down the ground attack. USF hasn’t been able to do much on the ground over the last few games, but the pieces are there. The backfield is good enough to get this all going if the line can generate a bit of a push.

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Temple Will Win

The USF pass defense has been okay, but the run D has been rolled over.

Notre Dame and Cincinnati were supposed to have success – it wasn’t a shock that they did – but East Carolina? The Pirate rolled for 210 yards to balance out the offense.

Temple was able to come up with 166 yards and three touchdowns on the ground against Navy, but it was Anthony Russo who was the star, hitting 70% of his passes for 206 yards with a touchdown and a pick. So how did the Owls lose? they never had the ball – keeping it for fewer than 25 minutes.

That won’t be a problem this week.

CFN Experts Picks: College Football

What’s Going To Happen

USF needs to run the ball well to pull this off, and that’s not going to happen. The Owls got their opening game out of the way – it screwed up just enough to not pull it off late against the Midshipmen – and now they’ll start to look the part.

Why Cincinnati Will Win

It’s not beautiful, but the Bearcats are doing what they’re supposed to over the first three games of the season.

Play great defense, control the clock, get the ground game going enough to be okay, and methodically take down wins.

The Bearcats are outstanding at converting on third downs; Tulsa isn’t.

What’s Going To Happen

If you’re good enough to beat UCF on the road, you’re good enough to at least throw a hell of a scare into a Cincinnati team that doesn’t usually put up enough points to put games away early

Tulsa is dangerous, it has the defense to be a bother, and this should be a low-scoring battle that comes down to who can control the lines. Cincinnati should do a better job of it – the defense is about to rise up – but it’s going to be the antithesis to all the high-powered shootouts happening throughout college football.
