Here’s the drill. Without looking, I take a guess on what the initial college football lines are going to be for Week 11. The real lines are added after to see if there might be anything that appears to be way off.

20. Coastal Carolina 23, South Alabama 6

Don’t bail on Coastal Carolina just because it only beat South Alabama 23-9. The polls are still in love, and the New Year’s Six game and Sun Belt championship are both on the table. South Alabama is a decent enough defensive team to keep games from getting out of hand. Coastal Carolina got up early, the offense was balanced, the defense was strong throughout, and it was the sort of business-like easy win that good teams don’t sweat over.

19. Cincinnati 38, Houston 10

A whole lot of things can be true at once for Cincinnati. It can be that dominant, it can be there steady-good, and it can also be beating up on a whole slew of overrated and overloved teams. Houston is okay – it was missing its top receivers – but that doesn’t dismiss the 510 yards of total offense from the Bearcats, including 342 on the ground. The UC O line is a destructive force.

18. Oklahoma 62, Kansas 9

How next-level bad is Kansas? Oklahoma star QB Spencer Rattler was just okay, got hurt – he’s supposedly going to be fine with a banged up hip – and it was still a brutal blowout that got uglier and uglier with the backups in. No, this isn’t the Oklahoma team of previous seasons, and no, it’s not going to the College Football Playoff, but it’s working its way up into Big 12 Championship status with each week.

17. Texas A&M 48, South Carolina 3

Texas A&M might be fifth in the polls, and it is getting respect, but not enough. South Carolina really isn’t as bad as it looked – the Aggies were dominant. The D allowed just 150 yards of USC offense, Kellen Mond was methodically good, and the ground game – 264 yards and two scores – picked a great time to put together one of its best games of the season. It’s all there for the taking. Keep winning, go 9-1, expect Florida to lose another game, hope for a Notre Dame loss somewhere, and the CFP is right there.

16. Oregon 35, Stanford 14

Oregon’s win over Stanford is probably going to be dismissed as no big whoop, but that’s a better Cardinal team than it might seem. Tyler Shough was an effective 17-of-26 for 227 yards and a touchdown with a pick through the air for the Ducks, and he ran for 85 yards and a touchdown. Stanford showed a running game again after doing nothing last year, but that’s going to be the norm. Again, it was a good win for Oregon. This year, in the opener, take a 21-point victory and don’t ask any questions.

15. Indiana 38, Michigan 21

Don’t look at the opposing team records or get too into this any more than you have to. Indiana is 3-0 with wins over Penn State and Michigan. Again, Indiana – in football – is 3-0 with wins over Penn State and Michigan, beating the Wolverines for the first time since 1987.

The focus has been all on Michigan stinking it up, but really, this should be about IU improving in each of the first three games. Michael Penix’s 342 yards and three touchdowns, to go along with 97 yards and two scores from Stevie Scott, are legitimate. More than that, Indiana – again, in football – held the University of Michigan to 13 yards rushing.

14. Oklahoma State 30, Kansas State 18

Oklahoma State isn’t going to be the high-flying fun show we all thought it would be. However, the defense has been one of the biggest shockers of the 2020 college football season – it’s terrific, especially when it has to be (Texas game aside, to a point). The O didn’t really work against Kansas State, but on the road, and with the realistic Big 12 title dreams about to slip away, that was a gut-check win and finish – holding on to stop a two-point conversion in a take-the-W-get-on-the-bus-and-get-out game.

13. Marshall 51, UMass 10

Shhhhhhhhhh, but Marshall is right there in the mix for the Group of Five spot in the New Year’s Six. Beating UMass by 41 is about as tough as ordering drive-through, but this team just keeps rolling right along. The running game is great, freshman QB Grant Wells is getting sharper and sharper, and now all the program needs is for the Cincinnatis, Libertys, Coastal Carolinas and BYUs of the world to start to stumble.

12. Iowa State 38, Baylor 31

So by this point we know what Iowa State is. Brock Purdy isn’t going to rise up and have a dominant statistical year, but he’s still going to be fine. The three touchdown passes – good. The 164 yards and three interceptions – bad. However, Breece Hall is having a Doak Walker Award type of season – 31 carries for 133 yards and two scores – and the defense managed to hold down a mediocre Baylor attack. The team’s four turnovers, though, almost gave the game away.

11. Miami 44, NC State 41

D’Eriq King isn’t going to win the Heisman, and he’s always going to be behind the Clemson starting quarterback in the attention department, but a case has to be made for him as the ACC MVP. That Hurricane team needed everything he gave it in the 44-41 win over NC State, completing 31-of-41 passes for 430 yards and five touchdowns, and with a team-high 105 rushing yards on 15 carries.

College Football News Rankings 1-127: After Week 10

College Football News 2020 college football rankings after Week 10

College Football News 2020 college football rankings after Week 10

And now Liberty screws everything up.

At this point in the season, there has to be a healthy mix of opinion to go along with what has to be done based on what happened on the field.

BYU and Cincinnati appear to be very good teams that just so happen to have mediocre schedules, while Liberty seems to be a good team that has two Power Five wins – Syracuse and now Virginia Tech – for the better resumé.

Liberty also screws up the ACC pecking order. Coming up with one big win over a team isn’t the same as dealing with the weekly grind of a Power Five schedule, but as the line continues to go, non-conference games have consequences.

Virginia Tech lost at home to an unbeaten Liberty. That’s going to stick with the Hokies and the ACC for the rest of the season, just like the Big 12’s 0-3 home record against the Sun Belt won’t be shaken.

Louisiana still has just one loss to an unbeaten Coastal Carolina, and the 34-13 road win over Iowa State is by far the worst thing to happen to the Cyclones this year.

Up top … whatever. The top four teams are the top four teams. Alabama has been more dominant overall, Notre Dame gets credit for pulling off a win over Clemson, Ohio State is amazing but hasn’t beaten anyone – if you go by Penn State’s 0-3 record – and Clemson is fine but beaten up.

Credit is given overall for wins over Power Five programs in big situations. Michigan and Penn State might be struggling, but they’re still Michigan and Penn State, and Indiana beat them both.

As always, if you have a major issue with these, check the schedules – your team probably lost to someone it shouldn’t have.

10. Ohio State at Rutgers

Point Total: 64.5
PICK: Under
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

Three parts to this to make the under happen.

1) Ohio State’s defense let up just a wee bit in last week’s 38-25 win over Penn State. It’s going to have no problem against a Rutgers team that scored a bit in the first two weeks, but the yards aren’t there.

2) OSU head coach Ryan Day felt bad after his team scored a late touchdown against Nebraska and apologized to Scott Frost. He’s not going to run up the score on Greg Schiano.

3) The Rutgers D is just good enough to come up with a few takeaways to keep Ohio State’s O from putting up astronomical numbers. However, the attack will be just fine. Remember, though, 48-14 is an under.

9. Kansas at Oklahoma

Point Total: 63.5
PICK: Over
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

Oklahoma 62, Texas Tech 28. That was last week.

You always like the over if one side can take care of most of the work by itself.

The Kansas defense hasn’t done much of anything, allowing 47 or more in four of the last five games and 107 combined in the last two games. The Sooners are still trying to get everything going with the O, and that should mean 50+ points against the Jayhawks.

Kansas will oblige with a courtesy score or two, but demand the Sooners score 64.

8. Iowa State at Baylor

Point Total: 47.5
PICK: Over
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

This is mostly about Iowa State.

The Cyclone offense is getting a huge year out of RB Breece Hall, and QB Brock Purdy is overdue to light it up. Even with the inconsistencies, the Cyclones have scored 31 or more in four of the five Big 12 games it played in so far. Even the game when the O didn’t score much, it was a 24-21 loss to Oklahoma State.

Baylor has allowed 27 points in each of the last three Big 12 games, but can it score enough to get this thing to 48? It should hit around 24 against against an okay Cyclone D.

7. Michigan State at Iowa

Point Total: 46.5
PICK: Over
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

Michigan State scored 27 in the opener against Rutgers and 27 again in last week’s stunner over Michigan. So start there and assume the Spartans will be around … 27. However, even though the points haven’t been gushing, the yards haven’t been bad. MSU will move the ball.

You’re a little concerned here that MSU’s defense isn’t bad – it stuffed Michigan and owned Rutgers, at least yardage-wise – and the two Iowa games went 24-20 and 21-20.

In Week 3, Iowa should be a bit sharper and score a bit more than 20. Yeah, you’ll have to sweat it out, but 46.5 isn’t asking for the world.

6. WKU at Florida Atlantic

Point Total: 38.5
PICK: Over
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

If you read this once in a while, you know there’s a threshold when it comes to taking the over around the mid-70s – just don’t. Too many things have to go right for that to happen.

Don’t take unders in college football if they’re around the 30s. Even in a game with the most offensively-challenged teams, one could take care of it all by itself.

All of this pretentious hoo-ha flies in the face of WKU reality. Again, if you read this once in a while, you know that you always, always, always go under on a Hilltopper team that has zero interest in scoring.

WKU has failed to score more than 14 in any of its last four games, and hasn’t scored more than 24 in any of its last seven as a program.

Florida Atlantic isn’t burning it up, either – all three of its games so far failed to get to 40. However, it scored 24 against UTSA and 21 against Charlotte.

It’s just a sad little 38.5 total. Make it feel better and take the over.

College Football Free Predictions, Previews Winners and Whiners: Week 10

[jwplayer PkCtjTd4-boEY74VG]

From Winners and Whiners

We’re in Week 10 in College Football and that means the Pac-12 is finally here to start their season in early November. This week, No. 23 Michigan visits No. 13 Indiana, No. 8 Florida meets No. 5 Georgia from Jacksonville, No. 1 Clemson takes on No. 4. Notre Dame.

(note:Some of these picks were made by our Editor and are subject to change)

*Michigan has opened the season at 1-1, after an impressive win over Minnesota by 25. They struggled last week, falling to rival Michigan State 27-24 at home. Jim Harbaugh is now 8-13 against Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State and Wisconsin during his five years. He’ll face an Indiana team that is 2-0 after shocking Penn State in the opener in overtime and then beating Rutgers on the road. Michael Pennix Jr. had three passing TDs and one rushing, while their defense forced three turnovers for the second straight week. Hoosiers are getting points, but take the Wolverines as a 3-point favorite. They are the more physical team and hungrier.

*Florida takes on Georgia in what would normally be the “World’s Largest Cocktail Party”. Florida is coming off a brawl-ridden win over Missouri last week, while Georgia struggled offensively to beat Kentucky 14-3. Both teams have one loss with Georgia falling to Alabama 41-24 and the Gators losing to Texas A&M 41-38 on the road. The Gators are led by QB Kyle Trask, who has 18 TDs and just two picks. He’ll be tested against a very good defense, though the Dawgs struggled against the pass vs. Alabama. The problem with Georgia is their mistake-prone quarterback Stetson Bennett. They also have a few key injuries on the defensive line. Take the points and the Gators.

*The most intriguing game of the weekend has Clemson going to South Bend to take on the Fighting Irish. With Trevor Lawrence out another week due to COVID-19, the Tigers will have to rely on D.J. Uiagalelei, who threw for 342 yards and two TDs in Clemson’s come-from-behind 34-28 win over Boston College last week. When you barely beat B.C. at home, even if it’s a backup quarterback, there has to be a concern. Notre Dame hasn’t really played anybody, but they are 6-0 after crushing Georgia Tech on the road 31-13 last week. Ian Book has just seven TD passes and 1,224 yards passing. He also has 212 yards rushing and five TDs. They will miss Lawrence in this game and the Tigers’ defense gets exploited again. Take the Irish and the 5.5.

10. Pitt at Florida State

LINE: Florida State -2.5
ATS PICK: Pitt
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

This is all about the Pitt defensive front. It’s been a rough run for the Panthers over the last few games in blowout losses to Miami and Notre Dame, but Florida State isn’t in the same world as those two – coming off a 48-16 loss to Louisville – with an improved, but still shaky offensive line.

The Panther D line should live in the Seminole backfield, and all the O needs is for QB Joey Yellen to be merely okay. One note: check the last-second status of QB Kenny Pickett. He’s doubtful on a bum ankle, but there was some thought this week that he could go. If he’s playing, this becomes a pick game.

Bet $1 on the Notre Dame money line, WIN an additional $100 (in free bets) if Notre Dame scores a touchdown this weekend.

9. Arizona State at USC

LINE: USC -11
ATS PICK: Arizona State
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

There are way too many funky parts to this game.

What have we learned about the bizarre 2020 college football season? You’re never crazy to assume super-crazy in the season-openers – we just don’t know what these teams are quite yet.

Arizona State should be good enough all around to at least provide a push, Herm Edwards’ Sun Devils is 1-1 against the Trojans and kept last year’s loss close, and there’s the 9:00 am start time and 4:30 wake-up call to get ready.

USC should win, but -11 is a bit much.

8. Minnesota at Illinois

LINE: Minnesota -7
ATS PICK: Minnesota
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

You owe us, Gophers.

We went in so hard with you against Maryland last week, and it was going just fine until the O stopped scoring the D made the Terps look like Alabama.

The line started out at -9 and is down to -7 against an Illinois team that’s starting former fourth-string QB Coran Taylor and has been picked clean through the air in the first two games.

Minnesota has too many great parts to the passing game to not blow up. More than that, it’s too good to be 0-2, much less 0-3.

7. ULM at Georgia State

LINE: Georgia State -19
ATS PICK: Georgia State
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

Georgia State just got whacked 51-0 by Coastal Carolina, but the offense was great in the first four games against better teams than ULM. Just about every team is better than ULM.

The Warhawks aren’t scoring enough with 17 points or fewer in every game but the 35-30 loss to Georgia Southern. They held the score relatively low in the 31-13 loss to Appalachian State, but they’re about to be in for a long day against a Panther team that should be a whole lot sharper.

6. Kansas at Oklahoma

LINE: Oklahoma -38
ATS PICK: Oklahoma
Bet on this, BetMGM latest line

It’s policy here to never give up a ton of points to anyone – too many things can go wrong to get the number, and it’s always nice to walk into a stadium up, say, 38-0 – but Kansas keeps jumping over the bar again and again.

Iowa State put up 52 on the Jayhawks. Kansas State hung up 55, Oklahoma State 47, and a relatively punchless Baylor team scored 47.

Oklahoma is only getting 38? The Sooners put up 48 points against Texas Tech before halftime last week – they’re rolling now.
