Proposed trade lands Warriors dominant rim-runner

The proposed trade would send the rim-runner to the Golden State Warriors in a deal headlined by Andrew Wiggins.

The Golden State Warriors have lacked size this season. They opted against adding Dwight Howard during the preseason and often found themselves utilizing undersized bigs in the middle of the floor. Adding height around the rim will likely be a focus for the front office in the coming months.

According to Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley, the Warriors could have some success by opening talks with the Cleveland Cavaliers about a potential trade for Jarrett Allen. The athletic rim-runner is impressing for the Cavaliers in the opening round of the Eastern Conference playoffs and has proven a dominant rebounder and lob threat.

The proposed trade looks like this:

Warriors get: Jarrett Allen

Cavaliers get: Andrew Wiggins, Trayce Jackson-Davis, future draft stock

“He could be the anchor who gets the defense back on track and the automatic lob finisher who ups the potency of this attack,” Buckley wrote. “To flesh out the deal, the Warriors could also add Georges Niang, whose three-point shooting and quick processing skills should make him a snug schematic fit.”

Allen would give the Warriors an athletic rim-runner who could thrive in a fast-paced offense alongside Jonathan Kuminga in the front court. Draymond Green would be the glue that held everything together and marshaled the defense.

Steph Curry’s genius and exceptional shooting ability would ensure Allen had enough space when rolling to the basket. Nevertheless, the Cavaliers are unlikely to part with Allen in the summer. He has become a core part of the team’s rotation. Still, he is the prototypical player Golden State should be looking for if they bid to bring in additional size in the summer.

Chris Paul’s future could lie away from the Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors may choose not to bring Chris Paul back next season.

The Golden State Warriors acquired Chris Paul as part of the trade that sent Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards. He played 58 games for Steve Kerr’s team this season, averaging 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.8 assists on 44.1% shooting from the field and 37.1% shooting from the perimeter.

Paul has a team option on his contract for next season worth $30 million. The Warriors are expected to decline that option, which would allow the veteran ball-handler to enter unrestricted free agency in the summer. According to Kurt Helin of NBC Sports, the Warriors could decide not to bring the veteran guard back next season.

“It’s highly unlikely Chris Paul will be back with the Warriors next season,” Helin wrote. “It’s not that Steve Kerr or anyone else is unhappy with his play — this was the best Golden State’s non-Curry minutes have been in years, and much of that was thanks to Paul. It’s just a financial situation where the Warriors are trying to cut back on their steep tax bill, and another team will likely offer CP3 more money than the Warriors want to pay their backup point guard.”

The Warriors could prefer to continue developing some of their younger talent rather than bring Paul back for a second season with the team. Brandin Podziemski and Moses Moody could benefit from additional on-ball reps, and Paul’s departure would undoubtedly open those.

The Warriors have some tough decisions to make during the summer. Whether to bring Paul back will be one of them.

Watch: Former Warrior Donte DiVincenzo hits Knicks’ game-winning 3-pointer vs. Sixers

The former Warrior hit a game-winning 3-pointer to give the Knicks a 2-0 lead over the Sixers in the first round of the playoffs.

While the Golden State Warriors season is over, the first round of the NBA postseason is in full swing. During the 2024 edition of the playoffs, 11 former members of the Warriors are on the floor around the league.

On Monday night, an ex-Warrior took over playoff headlines with a game-winning shot at Madison Square Garden. In Game 2 of the New York Knicks’ first-round battle against the Philadelphia 76ers, Donte DiVincenzo drilled a 3-pointer in the final seconds to deliver the Knicks a 104-101 lead over the Sixers.

Seconds before his game-winner, DiVincenzo missed an open look from beyond the arc. However, a heroic rebound from Isaiah Hartenstein gave the former Warrior turned Knick another chance. DiVincenzo hit his go-ahead triple with 13 seconds on the clock that set the New York crowd into a frenzy.

DiVincenzo’s 3-pointer earned a rare “double-bang” call from legendary broadcaster Mike Breen.

Via @KnicksMSGN on Twitter:

DiVincenzo finished with 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field with four made 3-pointers to go along with four rebounds and three assists as the Knicks went on to take a two-game lead over the Sixers.

Is it time for the Warriors to trade Steph Curry?

Should the Golden State Warriors explore the trade market for Steph Curry in the offseason?

The Golden State Warriors season ended abruptly at the hands of the Sacramento Kings. Steve Kerr’s team struggled for consistency throughout their 82-game schedule; multiple players failed to reach their usual performance level and some dealt with a string of injury issues.

Another issue facing the Warriors: Their championship core is aging, and they have a new core waiting to step up and continue developing.

It’s a tough tightrope for the Warriors’ coaching staff to walk. As such, Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle raised the question whether now is the right time to trade Stephen Curry.

“If another team will offer the Warriors a bounty of draft picks and prospects in exchange for Curry, thus jump-starting a necessary team overhaul, the Warriors should at least consider the offer, and present it to Curry,” Ostler wrote.
Ostler’s thought process is clearly coming from a rebuilding angle. After all, if Golden State wanted to begin building around its younger stars, such as Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski, moving Curry would provide the franchise the assets needed to do that. However, Ostler conceded that should Curry wish to retire in the Bay Area, it’s unlikely the Warriors would look to trade him.
“Please understand, if Curry tells the Warriors he wants to play out his career here, end of story. No way he would be subjected to the treatment given Joe Montana and Willie Mays, traded near the end of their careers. I’m convinced that if Curry wants to retire with the Warriors, Lacob will make that happen.”
The Warriors have some tough decisions to make in the upcoming offseason. However, it’s highly doubtful that Curry’s future with the franchise will be one of them. After all, he’s still one of the best guards in the NBA. His shooting skill is still among the best in the world. Moving on from Curry may look good on paper, but in reality, it’s a non-starter that will likely never come to fruition. Nor should it.

Chris Paul drawing interest from rebuilding Western Conference team

The veteran ball handler is drawing interest from the San Antonio Spurs, assuming the Golden State Warriors decline his team option.

Chris Paul has a $30 million team option on his contract. The Golden State Warriors are expected to turn down that option, allowing the veteran point guard to enter unrestricted free agency this summer. Paul could still re-sign with the Warriors on a team-friendly deal. However, he will likely have multiple opportunities from around the league.

According to Marc Stein, who was writing via his SteinLine newsletter, the San Antonio Spurs could have interest in acquiring Paul via free agency. That would pair one of the greatest playmakers in NBA history with rising young phenom, Victor Wembanyama.

“A potential team to watch, should Paul and the Warriors part ways, is San Antonio,” Stein reported. “Among the early personnel rumbles in circulation: The Spurs could emerge as a Paul suitor if they decide to pursue some veteran know-how on a short-term contract basis to furnish presumptive Rookie of the Year winner Victor Wembanyama with more seasoned help in Year 2.”

Paul would undoubtedly help expedite Wembanyama’s development. The veteran guard is known for helping improve young players. He would also get a starting role under Gregg Popovich, which isn’t something Steve Kerr can offer with Golden State.

However, Paul’s focus will likely be on winning a championship, which is something that has eluded him throughout his 19 years in the NBA. If a ring is truly the driving force behind Paul continuing his career, a potential move to the Spurs projects to be unlikely, regardless of the opportunity to help Wembanyama become the superstar he’s destined to be.

Warriors expected to find bigger role for Moses Moody

The Golden State Warriors are expected to find a bigger role for the impressive young wing next season.

Moses Moody has struggled to earn a consistent spot in the Golden State Warriors rotation. He played in 66 games for Steve Kerr’s team this season, averaging 8.1 points, 3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game on 46.2% shooting from the field and 36% shooting from 3-point range.

Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. believes Moody’s struggles have been due to the Warriors’ depth in his position. He’s been fighting an uphill battle since the franchise acquired him with the 14th pick in the 2021 NBA draft. However, Dunleavy noted the front office and coaching staff will explore options to open additional playing time for Moody heading into next season.

“Yeah, I think the good and bad of the situation with Moses is, first he’s improved, he’s gotten a lot better, and on top of it, I think any issues with him playing, frankly, is a result of our depth, which is also a good thing,” Dunleavy Jr. said. “But in the end, you’re right, he hasn’t probably played as much as we would like and there hasn’t been a clear enough path. So that will be something we’ll look at. I think it’s really important coming into Year 4 for him that there is some reasonable playing time available for him where he can impact our team and be out there and continue to improve, and I think that’s a fair thing.”

Moody has shown flashes of his upside when given the opportunity to play consistent minutes. He could be the scoring punch the Warriors need off the bench. And he’s proven capable of stepping into the starting lineup when Kerr’s team is in a pinch.

If the Warriors are unable to find a legitimate role for Moody heading into next season, it will be interesting to see if they keep him around. After all, if he wants to reach his full potential, he needs to be on the court and experiencing all the different highs and lows the NBA provides. The front office has some tough decisions to make.

Kerr sees similarities between Brandin Podziemski and Lakers favorite

The Golden State Warriors head coach can see some similarities between the two fan favorites.

Brandin Podziemski was a bright spot for the Golden State Warriors this season. The rookie wing impressed throughout the 74 regular-season games he played. Steve Kerr believes there are similarities between his rookie wing and Los Angeles Lakers fan favorite Austin Reaves.

Kerr coached Reaves at the 2023 FIBA World Cup. As such, he understands what both players bring to a team and how they’re able to defy expectations to prove themselves as high-level talents in the NBA. Kerr shared his thoughts while addressing the media on Friday (April 19.)

“He’s a different player from Austin Reaves, but I see similarities — just having coached Austin this past year, in the World Cup,” Kerr said. “They’re similar sized. They’re both a lot stronger and quicker than they look on the floor. Some of it is because their game speed is really high. They may not time well in the 40, but their game speed, because of their reaction or their proactivity on the floor, both guys, there’s a lot to their games.”

Podziemski will undoubtedly want to impress during his sophomore season. There will be minutes up for grabs and potentially a spot in the starting lineup. Kerr will likely expect to see some growth from his young and upcoming star before committing to giving him a larger role.

Podziemski ended his rookie year with averages of 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists. He shot 45.4% from the field and 38.5% from 3-point range. It’s fair to assume we will see all of those numbers increase next season, as he showcases the developments he’s made after a strong offseason.

Draymond Green hints at roster changes for Warriors

Draymond Green is expecting the Golden State Warriors to make some roster changes this summer.

The Golden State Warriors will be watching the playoffs from the comfort of their own homes this year. The Sacramento Kings eliminated them from the Western Conference play-in tournament on Tuesday (April 16). As such, there are widespread expectations that Golden State will alter its roster during the offseason.

During the latest episode of the “Draymond Green Show” podcast, the veteran forward shared his belief that Golden State’s rotation will look different when the new season rolls around later this year. He accepted that changes needed to happen but stopped short of postulating what those alterations could be.

“When you’re in a situation like this, all things are on the table,” Green added. “You’d be crazy to go into it thinking ‘Oh it’s not’ or ‘I’m good.’ Like … nah, you’re not until you are. I’m looking forward to having these conversations, seeing what’s next, what the thoughts are. Kind of had a few thoughts [Wednesday] but kind of on this tight 20-minute schedule where everybody’s kind of getting through their exit interviews. So looking forward to having those conversations.”

Once the offseason officially begins, the Warriors’ primary objective will be to resolve Klay Thompson’s contract situation one way or another. His impending free agency has been a theme throughout the year and will be something everyone will undoubtedly want resolved.

Whatever other changes Golden State chooses to make will likely be based on maximizing the talent of their veteran core and younger stars, such as Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis. It will be a busy summer for Dunleavy and co., but one that has to happen if another championship is in the near future.

Warriors expected Draymond Green to remain with franchise a

Mike Dunleavy Jr. expects Draymond Green to remain with the franchise heading into next season.

Draymond Green’s season was a rollercoaster of emotions, both for him and his teammates. The Golden State Warriors veteran served two suspensions, was ejected four times, and dealt with multiple injury issues. However, he also formed a fearsome partnership with Jonathan Kuminga and Andrew Wiggins when operating as Steve Kerr’s small-ball center. He then thrived as a forward next to Trayce Jackson-Davis in a defensive-minded lineup.

When speaking to the media on Thursday (April 18), Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. noted that he expects Green to remain with the Warriors heading into next season. The veteran forward’s value to the roster continues to be irreplaceable despite his questionable antics from time to time.

“Yeah, I think in terms of having [Draymond] back, I think very, very high likelihood,” Dunleavy said. “I can’t imagine a scenario where he’s not back. Could be wrong, but, man, he’s signed up under contract, we value him, he’s a core piece of what we do. So, fully expect him to be back…I think we won over 60 percent of the games he played in this year, so you know how meaningful he is to winning, and he’ll continue to do so.”

Green signed a four-year $100 million deal last summer. He has three years remaining on that deal. Golden State likely expects him to see out the remainder of his career with the franchise, especially if he continues to impact winning at a high level.

Golden State is expected to make some changes to its rotation during the offseason. However, it would appear Green will remain off the table in any potential trade negotiations, as he still projects to be an important part of the team’s core.

Draymond Green reveals Steph Curry’s motivational 3 words after Kings loss

Draymond Green revealed Steph Curry’s words shortly after the Golden State Warriors were eliminated from the 2024 NBA playoffs.

The Golden State Warriors’ season is over. The Sacramento Kings eliminated them from the play-in tournament on Tuesday (April 16). Sacramento went on to be eliminated by the New Orleans Pelicans. However, that doesn’t change the fact the Warriors will be watching the postseason from home, rather than contending for a championship.

During a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” Golden State’s veteran forward revealed that Steph Curry was defiant in the locker room following their elimination. Green recalled the three words the veteran sharpshooter told him as they began to prepare for a difficult summer.

“Right after the game, in the Kings’ locker room, I said, ‘I love you bro.’ He was like ‘I love you too, bro. We ain’t done,'” Green revealed. “You right. Got it. Noted. Cool, we in. You right.’ So to think that we’ve done these things, I love it — And we’re not done.”

There will be a significant amount of speculation surrounding the Warriors during the offseason. Questions linger over the veteran core, most notably the future of Klay Thompson.

Nevertheless, Curry and Co. will likely be eager to get back to work, so that they can put this difficult season behind them and begin building toward a potential championship run in 2025. As the veteran superstar said, the Warriors ‘ain’t’ done.
